Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...
Something like that would be nice to have. Surprised this site doesn't have one already.
It helps a lot to have someone, and logging in a simple chat each day and seeing familiar people does help.
Skype is a chat program similar to MSN messenger and AIM. One of the major differences is that SKYPE is used to keep in contact with people from around the world. If you own a headset, you can call people and talk to them. However, another feature of skype is the group chat. I can create a chat room for people who sign up (it is free) and register for ppl from this site, and that way yall can chat real time. The benefit of this is, it would be like a place people can go without having to log onto this site....something normal people would do. It collaborates everyone into one area, avoiding the time delays of getting replies from messages, to instant feedback. I already use Skype frequently so I know how cool it is and stuff. That's why I thought people would really benefit and feel better from this.
I don't think it's for me, but other people might really want to do it.
On my part, I prefer to get to know people via written messages for a while first. Then, if I find I am clicking with someone, I'd be happy to talk on the phone (or Skype, if I had it).
Maybe other people feel the same way -- they might not feel comfortable talking verbally right away, not knowing who's on the other end. It's different -- might not feel as safe, perhaps -- as having the time to pick and choose who to reply to, how to reply, etc.
I'm just saying there are all sorts of reasons why people might not want to do the skype thing -- that doesn't mean it's not a good idea, and please don't take it personally.
Hugs.
Ah, I see. I admit I did not read your explanation of what Skype is -- because I thought I already knew exactly what it was! I only knew about the verbal talking aspect (like a free phone), did not know about the chat.
Still, chat is simply not for me. It's writing, yes, but my comments about picking and choosing with whom to interact, and taking time to respond still apply.
It may also be a generational thing. I'm more than twice your age, after all. ; ) I realize that plenty of people older than me do chat, but it's just not something that appeals to me at all.
(For me, it's a stretch that I'm even posting online!)
But other people will surely be interested -- and I see you've already gotten a positive reply from standby me.
Would love to hear an update if the chat group ends up taking off!
