Hi! I am new to this site. My mom was dx with liver cancer this week. 3 wks ago her kidney and spleen was removed because of cancer. 11 yrs ago she had colon cancer.

I do know that mom is going to try chemo. The doctor's said that chemo will help. When they did the kidney surgery, they could not get all of the cancer. There were some lymph nodes affective that is on her main artery. They are hoping the chemo will fight that cancer. but, she has to have another kind of chemo for the liver. I am not sure if she is willing to go through all of it. She is so worried about getting sick. but I really feel she needs to try. She hated how she felt after chemo 11 yrs ago, but I know things have changed so much.

How can I help her? Anyone out there going through this that can help?

Thanks!
Mindy

" Hi Mindy, Sorry to hear about your mom. Cancer is a relentless diease! What kind of chemo are the drs. talking about? Is it chemoembolism? That's where the chemo is shot directly at the cancer in the liver. My husband had that proceedure and came thru it pretty good. Tired but not really sick. He was in the hospital overnight. They were going to repeat the proceedure 6 weeks later but thank god, a liver transplant was avaliable. This list can be pretty quiet so don't get discouraged if you don't get any replies right away.

" Forgot to add, my daughter had chemo for breast cancer 2 yrs. ago. "The red death" chemo. She was violently sick after the first time, but her drs. adjusted the meds and she went thru the other 6 treatments without the horrendous nasuea. So tell your mom while it isn't pleasant, (she already knows that) they have made strides to make it a bit more tolerable. Take care "
