Based on a couple of websites I visited HER2/neu is a gene. Some breast cancers are caused by having too many of them. Herceptin is a kind of chemo they use to treat this kind of breast cancer. It seem to have the standard chemo side effects, the worst probably being possible heart problems.

thanks for your information. i have started my herpectin and seem to be very tired. i have to go for 3 weeks.in a row and then 1 week without. have not been on this site for awhile because all i do is sleep. today is a good day though. tomorrow i go all through it again. hopefully this will get better. my heart is great. as good as gold. thanks for the concern. always beverly

Herceptin can be an effective treatment both before and after surgery for people with HER2-positive breast cancer. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence after initial surgery.Herceptin causes flu-like symptoms in about 40% of the people who take it. These symptoms may include:
* fever
* chills
* muscle aches
* nausea
Side effects generally become less severe after the first treatment. Your treatment team will monitor you during your infusions, especially your first dose, and can adjust the infusion if you are very uncomfortable. If you are receiving Herceptin every 3 weeks, you may have stronger side effects.
