In March 2000 I noticed that I would have a bowel movement the morning after eating ice cream or frozen yogart for dessert the night before. At the same time acidity in foods drinks started bothering me. At various times I would wake up nauseous and have to lay on the couch until the afternoon when it went away. That happened for 2-3 years. In early 2005 everything I ate seemed to bother my stomach. That summer I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant that was ready to peak and irriable bowel syndrome (IBS). The IBS seems to have been triggered by the intolerance. Thankfully the intolerance has slowly gotten better since September 2005.

i've had the same things happen to me. i self-diagnosed my lactose intolerance late last year with the help of a friend, but i'm still having trouble with a lot of foods (mostly complex carbs and meat). i don't bother with doctors anymore i'm just trying to do my own research and figure things out. the same friend that helped me with the LI has also recommended i try digestive enzymes, which i have been using for about 2 weeks in combination with beano and lactase enzymes and i have noticed a BIG improvement in how my body is digesting and reacting to certain foods.
for the nausea i've found that peppermint+green tea with a bit of grated ginger root works wonders. you can skip the green tea if you don't like it but i like how it makes me feel (it has about 1/3 the caffeine that a cup of coffee does), the peppermint and ginger are what work for the nausea though. hope that helps :-)

I was Dx'd with IBS when I was in my 20's.
Now, I'm 52. That's gettin up there. LOL I had the frequent bowl movments. Then chronic diareah. Someone on these boards mentioned to me the term Gluten intolorance and go to the Celiac boards. I did and removed gluten from my diet. WOW, no more diareah. I was still drinking milk. They said, stop it. LOL I stopped and I stoped vomiting. Then they talked to me about the protien in milk known as casein. The mention of a 3rd EATING problem did make me very frustrated and quite TICKED. So, I LOVE MILK to no end. I love YOGART too. OH and cheese just wonderful as well. I am not sure if I have Casein Desease or not. I can say, that I cannot drink a load of milk anymore and I just do NOT like this restriction, especially with all of these other restrictions.

None of these discoveries were by doctors.
I was on around 30 meds. Now, I am on around 4 or 5 meds, depending upon the season. I had been on 8 asthma and allergy meds. Then NONE, now one and I carry the rescue inhaler.

this probably sounds crazy, but i am actually HOPING that i have lactose intolerance because i have almost every symptom that is associated with. i also have really bad health-related anxiety, though, and i've already imagined the worst kind of scenarios, mainly that i some kind of GI cancer. i am going to make an appointment to see a gastroenterologist, hopefully this week, to try to get to the bottom of this. i think i have IBS too, but with the anxiety and the medications that i am on, it's hard to know what might be causing what.

I have always drank milk and it never made me sick. I got pregnant with my first child very young at 17. I drank milk like crazy with her. When I would sometimes have something like maybe a doughnut or cookies, I always wanted milk to go with it. They say if you get lactose intolerant it is because your body wasnt getting enough lactose ( the sugar in milk) I dont know how cuz I know I drank way more milk than so many people I know do. I noticed that sometimes when I would start drinking milk I would get sick. Meaning going to the bathroom. I didnt understand. It kept happening for awhile. Then it would happen with other foods. Sometimes I would eat icecream and be alright and sometimes I wouldnt. It kept getting worse and worse. Im now 27, by the way. I had ate the little soft pretzels that had this cheese filling in them one day. All the sudden, I had pain in my stomach that was horrible! I can put up with pain prettty good. I laid down. The pain got better. It seemed like if I got up and walked it would get worse. All the sudden, my stomach felt so bloated and I was so gasy. I had called my doctor. He told me to take some gas x. He told me if the pain came back like that go to the E.R. Later on the pain came back and this time it was untolerable! Ive had 2 kids, so for me to be in pain like that and for it to hurt that bad was horrible. I couldnt walk. I had to be driven to the E.R. When I had talked to my doctor over the phone, he was thinking I was lactose intolerant. The E.R. where I live is not the best hospital to go to. The people there are stupid. Seriously. I was hurting so much though. They were so busy that night. I waited in the waiting room forever until someone seen me. They said I had a Urinary tract infection. I had plenty of those before and I told them I knew that wasnt causing all this. I ended up going to my family doctor. I was told to take lactaid or whatever and if it worked then we knew that was the problem. I was also told they thought I could have IBS. The lactaid was working with the dairy food. It still doesnt work very good with milk. I mean just milk alone. I can hardly have any if I drink it. I had to end up getting a colonopsy done to make sure everything was alright. I have hietal hernia. I have IBS and lately that has been acting up. I notice that soda irritates it. The doctor that did the colonopsy on me had told me to stay away from carbonated beverages. It is really hard. I had pains in my stomach recently for days. I thought there was really something wrong with me. I found out it was due to IBS. They gave me med to take, just incase I have to for IBS if I causes my stomach to hurt. It is so frustrating. I just want to eat the foods I like. Im already a very picky eater. Sorry about writing such a long letter.
