Hi everybody,
I suddenly became lactose intolerant just after college - it was seriously like someone flipped a switch! Since then, I've had to cut out certain foods like ice cream, yogurt, large amounts of cheese, milk, etc, from my diet. It hasn't been fun, and though Lactaid has saved the day when it comes to milk for my cereal, I can't go buy a delicious Oreo cookie milkshake like I used to. I'm interested in how other people's lives, eating habits, etc, have been altered due to lactose intolerance. Full disclosure: I'm a journalism student and I would like to write a story for class on the topic, but I'm not sure where I can meet and talk to other people who have the condition, though about 1 out of 6 Americans have it to some degree. If anybody would like to share with the support group what they are going through, I think that'd be great. And if anyone would like to talk to me offline, so to speak (I understand that whatever is posted to the group is for the group only - no class projects!!), that would be fantastic as well. Thanks guys, I look forward to hearing your stories and sharing more of my own . . . like the time I had to politely decline ice cream birthday cake at a girlfriend's party, then felt silly and had some anyway! - Adam Posted on 11/17/08, 03:11 pm |

first had symptoms when I was 16 - at school! Mortifying! Since then I've been pretty particular about what I eat and only allow myself dairy when I don't have to go anywhere that day (I work from home). I always had very mild anxiety about it until the last year when I've become phobic of having an accident in public.
