Probiotics?

I've been reading a lot about probiotics lately and wonder if anyone has tried them (successfully or otherwise) for LI? There seem to be mixed opinions about whether they help with LI: some researches say yes, some no, some maybe, some don't even mention LI when talking about the benefits of probiotics.

Do any of you have any experience you can share?

" I would assume that the use of probiotics is similar to the ease of eating live cultured yogurt for those with LI. I personally have not tried the live cultured yogurt to experience an effect or lack there of w/having LI but plan on doing so. See if there are similarities with the use of probiotics and live cultured yogurt and then try the yogurt first. "

" Sorry, I didn't read the entire description of probiotics prior to posting. However, I have tried Activia (not positive if this contains live cultures) and it seems to help regulate BM's as it preaches in it's commercials. In doing research on the live cultures I have found that most research suggests that fi you have mild LI, it is often less aggrevating, as is swiss cheese and at time organic milks because they have less lactose in them. Only one way to find out really though as everyone is different - try it. Good luck! "

" Hey,
I use probiotic supplements (called PB8, for the 8 strains of priobiotic culture) for my LI and it seems to help. I also have ulcerative colitis and in general the probiotics seem to help with digestion, though I do heavily avoid most all dairy now. I would suggest trying them if your doctor gives you the green light. Also, many yogurts DO have live cultures, and if they do, they need a specific logo saying so, though I don't know from whom. If eating regular or soy yogurt daily, make sure it has live cultures. It may be easier to use a supplement. Good luck! "

" Jessica- isn't that from the same makers of lactagen? I wanted to try it because the lactagen program worked so well for me and it seems promising but I would love to see if anyone else has tried it yet to see how they feel about it? Let me know. "

" cm285- you might want to give "Better Digestion" a try. After doing some research I have found that better digestions has 3 different probiotics AND a digestive enzyme in EACH capsule. I've only heard great things, so it definitely might be worth a try. "

" My pharamist recommended it for my son who has eczema. One of the ladies that worked at the pharmacy said she tried it and it worked for her. She had just got a colonospy done. She must have had some kind of digestive problem maybe or it could of been something else. I have also read that they are suppose to be good for psoriasis. I have that. Everyone thinks that is a skin disease, but it actually has to do with your immune system. I read it is suppose to be good for your digestive system. I know fish oil is suppose to be good for psoriasis. You have to get the right kind of fish oil though. I think its like anything else. If you get probiotics, make sure you really look into what you are getting. I think they would be good for you and could help. I have been thinking about trying it. Im lactose intolerant and like I mention, I have other things also that I heard its suppose to be good for. I would try it. "

" I usually have a probiotic minigo (minigo's are really good and small in serving sizes!) with some lactaid pills at lunch time-anything else I am not really sure about.

As for my other milk product consumption most of it is from soy products now. "
