C.O.L.E.'s Foundation History
Like most parents, the thought of having to bury our child has never crossed our minds, let alone because of this thing called cancer. Before July 2008, I didn’t even know that something like this existed. To think that someone so innocent and someone who had so much life ahead of him could even get cancer was beyond me. To be honest, the entire topic of childhood cancer was completely kept quiet. Now, here I am typing the obituary letter for my oldest son. He was the boy who taught us all so much. He was the boy who brought over 600,000 hits to his website in only two and a half months. It brought in almost 7 hits per minute, 24 hours a day, for over 60 straight days. A boy whose life plan was to spread the word in more ways than one. I guess this is one of those times that helps us realize how little we know about the future. Our dreams for Cole had absolutely none of these plans in them. All we can do is remember the memories we had, and how precious Cole was to so many. He was the little boy who always loved to be by our side no matter what we were doing, always there to help. He was the boy who would wipe away our tears when Mom and Dad wept. The boy who seemed like he was always teaching us a lesson instead of us doing the parent thing. He was the child who loved his sister beyond words. The boy who would never forget to pray for the neighbor, Mr. Pertile, or anyone else that was on his tender heart before bed. The most loving, enjoyable, angelic boy that parents can usually only dream about. He was Cole! A true angel given to us to enjoy for three very short years. He was an angel who would leave a forever-long memory in the hearts and souls of so many- from his family, to this community, the entire nation, and this world. A 3-year-old who was given the gift to touch lives throughout this world in a way that most of us never will in a lifetime. A boy who made the world stop and tear down the walls that so easily beset us and brings forth the glory to the One who created us. He was Cole! The boy who made us all remember to hug a little tighter, love a little longer, and always thank God for the gifts He has given. He was COLE! www.caringbridge.org/visit/coleruot... This is the legacy that we strive to live every day: to show the world that people care. We realized first hand how important it is to reach out and help others in need. I was that person not too long ago that didn't know whether or not my son was going to live or die. I didn't know how many years we would have to go through different treatments and surgeries. It was the fear of the unknown that was the hardest thing to deal with. My heart just aches for all of the other families that are going through the same struggles. It was through the life of Cole that we have decided to "pay it forward" and help those who are in need. We can only pray that God will bless this foundation and ministry. This is the Legacy of COLE! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They are currently in need of families for the adopt a family program, if you know of anyone suffering from any type of childhood cancer or just want to donate please visit http://www.colesfoundation.com/ Posted on 11/10/08, 10:00 pm |
