Lithotripsy

Hello to all,
I was wondering if any of you have ever had the treatment called "lithotripsy" for kidney stones. I am due to have this next week and would like some more info on it or from anyone that has had it done. I have been in and out of the hospital twice now recently with kidney stones and a digital CT scan spotted a huge one on my right kidney which cannot be passed normally so they are going to "blast" it into teenie tiny pieces so I can pass it painlessly, HOPEFULLY!!
Any info on this procedure would be helpful!
Thanks.

" I had lithotripsy in 04-09
I was ultra nervous prior to the procedure & I'm talking about obsessing over it!
was easy as p-i-e my friend. scariest part for me was when I was being rolled to the litho room on the stretcher. When I got on the litho table the anesthesiologist gave me some versed through my venous access & I swear next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room. I was told to expect pain in my side, but I didn't.THANK YOU SWEET BUDDAH ALLAH & JESUS THAT MY UROLOGIST DIDN'T PUT A STENT IN ME! now that, that's awful I heard from many people.
over & out

" Yes, I agree it's mostly no problem. I have had way too many of them and I have a stone now that is too big to pass so I will probably be having another.

Most stones will break up into sand or very tiny pieces. I am one of the unlucky ones where the stones don't break up small so I end up passing bigger pieces and it is very painful. I get stones from an auto-immune disease so it is unusual.

I agree with Mike, the stents are a whole nother issue. I cannot tolerate the pain from them, they are terrible. Some people can't even feel them but for me they really hurt. "

" I had the lithotripsy procedure done last week and it was a piece of cake. No problems at all. Blasted that sucker to dust fragments. I did have a mild ache in my side but that was to be expected. Drink lots of water with lemon or eat lemons and grapefruits. Those acids in those fruits help kidney stones from forming. I can't eat grapefruits because I am taking Zocor for my high cholesterol but I have been drinking lemon water and eating lemons. I do not want to go through this again and will have to watch my diet and exercise. Thank you all for your comments and help. Hugs from Vivyan from the beautiful Pacific Northwest. "
