Have you ever had to get one taken out, because you just CANT STAND it and it hurts so bad.

Because that's how mine is. I went and had it checked to make sure it's in the right place. I still feel like SH!T and it was done on June 18th. I go for lithotripsy July 18th, which isnt far away, but I dont know if I can go that long with this pain increasing.

It sucks so bad.

" Hi,

I cant tolerate a stent either. Ive had about 6 or 7, everyone one has been more pain than I can handle. The last time I was due to go in on the Thursday to have it removed, but the weekend before I was in so much pain that my consultant managed to get theatre space at another hospital to remove it for me.

Take care

" I have had about a dozen stents to date, some as long as six months. I had one that just hurt more then it should have. My doc removed it and had to place a new one in. I think sometimes they just don't sit right.Have you talked with the doc about maybe replacing it with another one? Good luck! "

" Have you tried pyrdium or detrol LA?
The 1st helps with the pain and urgency some, but you need mini pads as your urine will be orange. Detrol LA will stop spasms...

There are 2 classes of stents: some can be left in 6 months and the 2nd ones up to a year. There are also ones with a string and ones without. The ones with can be self removed or removed by a nurse.. upon instruction to do so, they use them if it will just be in short time and for normal weight people.

If you have had a infection, a more invasive procedure or are overweight then they put in one that is completely internal. Then you have to have a cystoscopy to remove it.

I learned about the internal and external ones on my yahoo board. our urologist for that board has a good web site and helped write a kidney stone book http://www.drleslie.org
There may be a link to the board from there.

The board is wonderful! go there and make a post too or just read.

I had one with a string, in March and it was taped to my leg and came uptaped. I had to be careful not to pull it out accidently... and got a special bandage when I went to the urologists office. I was at the office to see if it could be removed... but urine culture was not back yet so it stayed in a few more days.

I had a stent in 1997 and it was in for maybe 2 months or so... that was my 1st one

" I've had several. Some are more tolerable than others. I had one while pregnant a few years back which was HORRIBLE. But I've also had some that were barely noticable. If you absolutely have to have one, ask your doctor if it's possible to have a smaller diameter stent. Yours might just be too big for your body to handle. "

" Have you tried pyrdium which will stain underware orange, so you need maxi pads or maybe detrol la? I had some mild discomfort with my last stent and the pyrdium really helped.

" I'm having the same problems with my stent. It was put in on Monday and its Saturday right now and I've felt like crap ever since. My back kills me, my abdomen hurts, I dread peeing but I still drink tons of water like I'm supposed to, I'm peeing blood w/ clots and I've had some of the worst pain in my back in the last few days that made the actual stone feel like a stubbed toe. We called the doc the other night cuz I hurt so bad I couldn't get off the toilet or walk by myself and he said it was bladder spasms pulling on the stent so he told my hubby to go get some Azo Standard which helped a bit. I saw him the next day and he prescribed pyridium, batrium (for the possible infection), detrol and vicodin. Yee gads! And I still hurt!!!! This sucks. I have surgery scheduled for this coming Thursday and I'll still have a stent for a few days afterwards. I didn't feel like this with my first stent.. I didn't even notice it until it slipped the day before removal. I hate feeling like crap. I can't do anything without hurting and I'm so darn tired. "

" Hi,
I hate stents!! i've had 2 in my treatments and the last one I had removed June 15th. the doctor was telling me that my body doesn't do well with stents and he acted like that was my fault! and I said who on earth does do well with them?! God bless them! This last one was worse than the stone itself and it makes me squirally. A friend told me it beats up the kidney from the inside and it sure feels like it. but i had instant relief when it was out! "

" I think the kidney does get traumatized by the stent. I mean, how can it handle having a foreign object lodged in it for anywhere from a week to a year. Gimme a break. I can feel my stent really badly when I pee which means the urine is pulling on the stent as it is leaving my bladder. I can feel it all day long also which causes me to think that it moves when my kidney drains also. It has to be moving around in order to be felt I would think. "
