Problems with work

Hello all, I am wondering if anyone of you have had problems with your work due to regular occurances of kidney stones?
I work for a good firm but they have grown tired of my regular hospital visits and the fact that I take time off each year for surgical procedures. I was wondering if anyone has had the same experience and if so how they went about dealing with work expectations?

" Yes, more from the pressure I put on myself than from actual complaints. I was in a job that needed my presence, (middle school principal), and ended up resigning my position due to my health. (Still working for the same school system but in a less crucial role...for my benefit and the school's.)
After I announced my resignation I found that many of the people I thought were questioning me were actually very supportive and openly compassionate.
In the end, I realized people I thought were questioning me and my stones...were not. I had let the constant, ER, Urologists, KS Specialists, Family doctor, visits etc. create a paranoia.

Good luck! "

" I've also had trouble with work. I don't work anything nearly as important as being apart of a large firm or being a school principal; I'm a cashier at a popular chain of coffee shops. I have type 1 renal tubular acidosis and get stones often.

I've faced harassment from management and supervisors. There is an issue right now where my bosses slap me on the back when I am bent over or my back is turned, claiming they were trying to get my attention. It always manages to be the side where I'm passing a stone and I have requested that they avoid period.

I have repeatedly asked the people in question to not touch me and to not touch my back, but it still persists. Most times I feel that it is done on purpose, as I have spoken directly to the people in question and they still do it. I've been told I am a health hazard and I am facing a transfer for my 'protection.' I also have been told I will not be allowed to do other parts of my job, which I have been told I need work on if I want to advance within the company. I have been in the same location for two years and have only recently had problems due to new management and new supervisors.

All I've asked from the beginning was bathroom breaks when my kidneys are acting up, all the filtered tap water I can drink so I can stay hydrated, and for people not to touch me or my back.

I'm not really sure what to do, but it's somewhat comforting to know I'm not alone in this. I am currently seeking out other employment. I can't help but be scared right now; I'm worried I'll have to go in for surgery again. I'm worried I'll be stuck in the hospital with another kidney infection. I'm worried that if I do manage to find another job in this market right now that I'll be forced to resign due to an illness.

I hope everything goes ok. "

" I had to leave my last job, partly because of their lack of understanding. I missed a lot of days because my stones would make me so nauseous and sick that I had to take pain medication and antinausea medication (I'm a preschool teacher). I also have Renal Tubular Acidosis.

They were a bit understanding at first, but after my first year, they started really gettiing after me for any absence. After this, to keep my job, I made the mistake of taking 1/2 a pain pill when in too much pain at work, just so I wouldn't have to go home. They never said anything about that, until I missed 10 days over 2 months. They tried to make a case that I would be unable to be alert and care for my class because of 1/4 of the recommended dose I was taking...but at the same time were asking for doctor's notes because they didn't believe I was sick. Eventually, during a 4month bout of stones, my doctor wrote them a strongly worded letter, and I left my job there. My new employer is much nicer, and I have learned to take OTC peridium instead of pain medication, and just deal with the pain. The only bad part is when a stone makes me sick to my stomach...then what? "

" i was hospitalized a few months ago b/c i had been having severe pain for months & this one week was just sooo bad i missed 3 days of work, then on the day i finally made it to work i had to leave b/c it was soo unbearable. i found out i had kidney stones, (after fighting to have a scan done, docs said symptoms not consistant & i was too young). I was stressed b/c I knew my boss was a bit fed up w/me being absent so much, but i brought them proof of the kidney stones & informed them there will be days i wont be in b/c i will be in pain from the stones, & i will do my best to be there & when i am there i do my best, i understand it is her business & she has to do what she has to do. & co workers think i'm full of it sometimes, b/c they dont understand. as long as you are a hard worker & honest you should be fine, hopefully you have a understanding boss. it does stink though b/c some days theres no need to go to doc/hosp b/c you kno the problem & you know its all about pain management, so it will just be a stay in bed day. my commute is an hour so i cant risk being away from home & in so much pain having such a long drive ahead of me. i almost lost my job in the beginning b/c i left 8months pregnant b/c of severe pain i was having my ob/gyn said it was normal nothing they could do. i believe i had the kidney stones then & they just missed it. everyone thought it was in my head which was frustrating, so anyhoo just work hard bring in proof if you are at doc/hospital etc you should be fine if not, hey you gotta do what you gotta do "
