Advice:
Kidney stone stuck in ureter?

I am in the midst of a kidney stone episode that seems to be lasting forever. I am not insured and am a student, which makes me hesitant to try a bunch of different medical procedures (CTs, ultrasounds, etc).

All the other times I've had kidney stones (8 or 9 times) the pain has been isolated to my ureter (like my father, I never get pain in my kidneys). It is excruciating, travels from my side to down by my bladder, suddenly passes and I'm done with the pain. This time, however, that last bit of pain has lasted for 2 days-- could a stone be stuck in the opening to my bladder? It fluctuates from somewhat bearable pain to excruciating and only makes peeing difficult sometimes.

Anyone had this happen? I've seen my GP, but how long should I wait before heading to see a urologist or the ER?

" Unfortunately, I've also had this occur when trying to pass a large stone and if it is unwilling to pass (naturally) then you'll be faced with a serious infection, since I know in my case, was the problem because every time the stone would move, I risk it "tearing" inside and this is where the infection comes in. I know that I had a few stones just too large to pass and they HAD to be broken up through lithotripsy. Sorry...wish I had something more positive. "

" Thanks for your advice fallon98. Fortunately the stone passed on its own after I saw my urologist a few days later as he put me on BPH medication and lortab. But it was nearly a week of excruciating pain by the time all was said and done. Since I never peed out the stone, I may never know what the deal was... "
