What triggers your IBS?

I was recently diagnosed with IBS after a bunch of tests came back normal. I'm curious what foods trigger your IBS and what foods help.

For me it's coffee, fried foods, coffee, and aspartame seem to give me problems. If I stay away from those, I can go weeks without painful symptoms.

Thanks for your input!

Heidi :-)

" Usually fried foods cause complications for people with celiac disease. Have you been tested for that? My triggers are usually: stress, lack of sleep, sugar, white flour, synthetic foods (fast food, fatty foods), mushrooms, cheese, orange peels, mint. Yeah, that is about all I can think of at the moment. I don't take medication for my IBS either, I have an issue with taking medication. I prefer to take a range of supplements which have been working just as effectively, if not better than medication. It's all personal choice though. Herbal teas have helped as well. "

" Yes, I was tested for celiac disease. That was one of many tests they did and they all came back normal, so that's why she said I probably have IBS. So far I've been eating very healthy and working out and that seems to help. "

" For me it's salt that's the main trigger. If I eat salt 2 or 3 days in a row boom! "

" for me it's dairy, anything with caffeine, definitely greasy food. also for me it depends on the time of day i eat certain foods. like if i drink coffee in the morning it seems to make my IBS much worse, but if i drink it in the afternoon, it doesn't trigger my IBS as much. It's the same with some other foods too,not just coffee. But other stuff, like fried or greasy food, triggers it all the time, doesn't matter what time of day it is. "

Goodbye mc donalds :( the said thing is that this is chronic. Occasionally I take. Laxatives but spinach is best as its natural and relieves ibs for me like some other veg not carrot though coz it causes me indigestion "

" Even though I've been plagued by symptoms off and on for years, I can't seem to pinpoint what my triggers are. I have diarrhea and horrible, horrible gas. I'm going to start a 3-day diet tomorrow of pasta, bread, rice, and potatoes hoping to get some healing going. I'm open to suggestions. "
