I can't be much use as I have IBS-D but it sounds like you shoud see your doctor to make sure that the constipation treatment that you have chosen is the best for you at this time.

Pain wise heatbags and drinking plenty of warm water always help for me a bit. I just wanted to say hang in there and I hope this passes soon *hugs*

Schedule a colonoscopy it rules out many things. If your female get a ca125 and transvaginal ultrasound and a pap done pelvic disorders like oc and endo can also cause ibs c symptoms. Hope all will be ok with you. Let us know the outcome

If your results are normal and your diagnosed ibs c take plenty of vegetables and lots of soluble fibre also 2.5 litres of water helps me more than anything. For laxative I used movicol but you must use laxatives only if presceibed by your gi doctor. Hope this helps

Trouble with me is that I want instant resultswith the Lactulose,and have since read up alot more about it.
Because my stomach is so distented its hampering my breathing,have contacted several out of hours GPs but they don't seem to think I have anything to worry about,but trying to get my breath can't be right.

As I say Ive been taking Lactulose since Sunday and its only Tuesday,so will have to carry on gasping.

Please call the doctor you trust most and either talk to him/her over the phone or make an appt. ASAP. You shouldn't have to go through this. I am now taking Align (over the counter - Google it.), takes 2-3 weeks to work, has good bacteria in it. It is for IBS, diarrhea, bloating, gas, constipation. It is now starting to work in my 3rd week.

I was rushed to hospital only to be told after many tests that I have ibs c. I am visiting pharmacies to find a probiotics that can solve my ibs c for now I am on fibre and occasiomaly on lactulose when ibs c is worse. It tends to get. Worse during my cycles. Your not alone I hope we can finally defeat ibss c.

ALSO, WHEN I AM REALLY CONSTIPATED I HAVE TO USE A FLEET ENEMA, AND THAT IS WHAT THEY USUALLY USE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND IT IS SAFE. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE HEARD OF THEM BUT THE WAY IT WORKS IS WHEN YOU OPEN THE BOX FOR THE FLEET ENEMA, YOU WILL SEE A PLASTIC BOTTLE WITH WATER IN IT. THEN I THINK THE BOTTLE SAYS TO LAY ON YOUR LEFT SIDE AND TRY AND HOLD IT IN AS LONG AS YOU CAN. THEN, YOU WILL GET A STRONG URGE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND I AM SURE THAT IF HELD IN LONG ENOUGH 10 - 20MINUTES THAT IT WILL CLEAR YOUR BOWELS GENTLY AND EASIER FOR YOU. THEN RELIEF!!!!! YAY! I SURE KNOW THAT FEELING AND I PRAY THAT THIS WILL HELP FOR YOU ALSO. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PURCHASE THE SUPPOSITORY AND/OR THE FLEET ENEMA AT ANY DRUGSTORE OR EVEN WALMART HAS THEM TOO, I SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT TAKE THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AS YOU MAY GET TOOO MANY CRAMPS AND THAT WOULD BE VERY HARD ON YOU. P.S. JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I ALSO TAKE LACTULOSE AND SENOKOT "S" 2 PILLS TWICE DAILY, AND OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO DRINK ALOT OF WATER WITH THE LACTULOSE OR MAYBE IT MAY BLOCK YOU UP MORE????? BYE AGAIN SUE
