I have so many chronic illnesses and have recently (a few months ago) been diagnosed with IBS. I have been told so many conflicting things that I can't get it straight in my head and haven't felt myself since February.

So I have some questions if someone could help me that would be great.

What the hell caused it does anyone know?

When does the pain stop - it seems almost constant, back and stomach - i would sometimes welcome a steam rollar on my tummy for releif.

Are we supposed to avoid carbs or eat them, low salt, no salt or go for it. If we can't eat veges and some fruit how do we stay healthy?

I can see from reading some of the posts that depression is common and i can see why this is a pain in the ass (yep i know thats a really bad joke), and that stress can make it worse, but I usually thrive on stress and am the go to person for help.

Does it ever get better?

I can't sleep or eat much and am finding advice confusing so i am coming to the people i know will have some great ideas

Thanks

" The pain is controlled with bentyl usually. You can try heating pads too, I usually just put up with it because they go away on their only after a good bowel movement or sitting in the right position.

IBS is when you have unusual bowel habits, constipation or diarrhea. One usually dominated. There really is no direct cause that I know of besides just having lame bowels. There is no cure, you live with it for life.

Everyone is different on what they can eat. If you have more constipation eat more vegies and fiber, avoid starches and avoid foods you know make the pain/constipation worse.

If you have more diarrhea eat fiber and try probiotics (supplements or yogurt ) and avoid food that makes the pain and runs worse.

There is no all perfect list of foods, it just ranges person to person. If something hurts you then avoid it.

I've had IBS for years and only recently got diagnosed once it got to its worse point. STRESS makes it almost unbearable!!! Reduce stress! I count barely eat for weeks. I lost 20lbs. Once I got rid of the roommates that made my life hell and quit the job that made me want to cry every night I could finally eat again. I still have a lot of constipation but not nearly as bad. I would go 2 weeks with out a bowel movement and feel horrible, now I got at least 3 times a week. YAY "
