HI!
I don't have IC, but I have had urethral syndrome for 25 years. I take 50 mg. macrodantin each day to keep myself pretty much pain free. Now, my gastroenterologist wants me to take a proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec, Nexium, etc). for my acid reflux. I'm afraid the macrodantin won't work if I take the ppi, because the macrodantin needs food and gastric acid to work. The ppi's shut off the gastric acid supply in the stomach. My urologist and my gastroenterologist don't seem to think there will be a problem, but I just don't seem to think these 2 drugs will both work. Has anyone had any experience with these drug conbinations? Any and all comments are welcome. Thanx. Posted on 04/01/09, 07:04 pm |

I guess I don't undrstand why your on Macro.
Is it because of infections? Bladder or u.t.? Macrodantin is just for keeping infections at bay. Sorry I don't know about the other meds your talking of. All I know for sure is that macro. is an antibiotic. It is not for pain. Of course an infection causes pain and therefore if it keeps them away you could say it keeps the pain under control.

I take the macrodantin to prevent bladder infections. I have urethral syndrome caused by a horrible bladder infection 26 years ago!! My urinalysis and cystoscopies are always clear. My urologist things that the paraurethral glands become infected if I don't take the macrodantin. The other drugs I mentioned, ppi's, are for acid reflux.
