I have seen a urologist twice now and he has discharged of which has annoyed me so much. I have had frequency since 2009 and constantly needed the toilet.if before January this year i would of been diagnosed with an interactive bladder that would of been fine but since January i have another UTI (usually have bout eight a year) i then had burning when a had intercourse and felt like a UTI after, because of this i got put on antibiotics, this didn't clear it so i had three separate lots off three doctors and nothing could stop the burning not just from sex but from the daily constant burning . A swab was taken just in case it was something else and that came back normal . I an on antibiotics till and this is my forth moth but i have been told to try and come off them,i am on oxybutynin 2.5mg twice to try stop me constantly going toilet which they have cut down from 28 a day to about 18i went yesterday and he upped my dose of oxybutynin up to the maximum three times a day and discharged me . I am so frustrated he has diagnosed me with an interactive bladder when i still don't know why there is constant burning and pain and discomfort. I recommend seeing a urogyne for a complete exam and diagnosis. I went to gynes and urologists, but it wasent until i went to the urogynecologist that anyone seemed to take me seriously and no what they were doing. Tell the doctor you suspect IC. Get a thorough pelvic exam along with a potassium sensitivity test. Then if you react to the potassium test youll know if you have it. Then follow the diet and take the medication Elmiron. In the meantime Have you tried drinking some baking soda in water for the burning? It tastes gross, so you might want to down it or drink through a straw so you taste less of it. For me after a couple times of drinking it the taste became associated with relief and its a lot easier to drink knowing its going to provide relief. Hope it helps

Prelief which is OTC helps some cope with flares. I used it for most of the first year I found out about the IC. Soda also helps me when a flare starts. The ICA states that tests for IC are not necessary and is usually diagnosed due to symptoms. I took Elmiron for almost 3 years and I am convinced that it healed the lining in my bladder. Now I do instills at home 2-3 times per month. Uretron helps when pain starts and it isn't convenient to do an instill right away. Actually PFD starts first now and then my bladder flares. Just try whatever treatments you can to find what works for you. I know that stinks, but it is what it is. Best of luck to you.
