I need help asap.
I have a flare or an infection but don't know which one. The burning during urination is not there yet that is why I think it is a flare and not a bladder infection. I stopped taking elmiron as if was thinning out my hair big time. Do you have any suggestions for me as I live in Canada and to get back to my urologist's office will most likey need a referral dfrom my family doc and will take about atleast a few monnth to about 6 to get it if I am lucky. I called my urologist office and left a message to try and get back in with him.........hope God will bless that request.

I don't know how much you know about the
treatment of flares, but I would strongly
suggest that you go the the website www.IC.Network.Com,then look for "Self Help Tips which are videos. The first video you will
notice is one called-Managing Flares.
It will at least give you some coping ideas.
There is an over-the-counter med that will
numb your bladder.I believe it was called
AZO or something like that.
I hope you are able to get some medical
attention soon, but in the meantime check
this website out if you haven't already.
I share your pain!

" I'm so sorry. These past 2 weeks I feel another flare coming and I hope it doesn't get as bad as last time. I went to the dr and she ruled out a UTI.

I'm in the US and I have learned a lot about your healthcare system and how it works from posts like yours. I could make an appointment with my, or another, urologist tomorrow if I needed to. How frustrating and unfair for you to have to wait that long! "

" Did this pain start right after you started taking Elmiron? Regardless, some of the things that have helped me during flares are hot baths (either 'aches away baths' which are bubble baths - you can buy them at Wal-Mart or epsom salt baths), a heating pad over lower abdomen/pelvis, LOTS of water, sometimes about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with water (gross but sometimes it really helps), resting, eating the safest foods (for me, that pretty much entails foods made from corn, rice, red peppers and lactose-free milk), finding the most comfortable position to sit/lay in (I always sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs and it actually helps the pain a bit), loose clothing, etc. I'm from Canada too - if you ever want to know more about Uracyst bladder instillations or where you can order Prelief in Canada, let me know. Hope you feel better soon!!! "
