I'm going to my doctor on Monday to get the Bladder Instillation.
this is my first time going to this doctor, knowing that i have Interstitial Cystitis. i have no idea what questions to ask him.. or what to do. i dont know what medicines to ask for.. or how to ask for them.. or how to ask for some sort of letter to get money from the government because i'm unable to work i'm in so much pain. i havent been working for over a year now because of the pain and flare ups. lately, i've had extreme urethra pain and i'm unable to have any sexual intercourse because the inside of my vagina also hurts extremely bad (i'm sorry for being so descriptive). i usually go to the bathroom every 20-30 minutes now also.. and i can barely wipe it hurts so bad. i guess i just need some advice on: -what to ask -what kind of medicine i should ask for -what kind of pain medication should i ask for -how i should ask for that letter to give to the government i'm so lost. i'm crying my eyes out right now cuz nothing i do can stop the pain. please, any advice i'll gladly take. thankyou all so much. Have you tried baking soda water. This might not work because you are in so much pain. But it is worth a try when I am in a bad flare it usually makes it go away. You add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to a glass of water. It tastes bad so I hold my nose.
I am not sure about the letter just explain your circumstances to them. As far as medicine I know that Hydrocodone or Vicodin does help with the pain. I took it when I got my hydrodistention. Doctors can be funny about prescribing pain killers. At least for me because I have mild IC. Also another thing you can ask for is Atarax I take it at night. It calms my bladder and helps me sleep. I don't get up as much as I used to. Another thing that is important is drink lots and lots of water. Avoid acidic foods. Have you checked out the Interstitial Cystitis Network it is a great resource. There is also a product called Prelief that is over the counter and it takes the acid out of food. You could try a warm bath or putting ice down there. Good luck I hope you find some sort of relief soon.

hi,
Have you ever consider going to a pain management specialist?A lot of urologists are reluctant to prescribe pain meds. The last urologist I went to prescribed Tramadol but wouldn't prescribe Hydrocodone,I had a severe allergic reaction to it.I take Atarax like Tori I take it at bedtime and it helps me sleep, I hardly get up to go to the bathroom. I was going to a pain management clinic and they put me on hydrocodone and it helped a lot but my PCP told me to stop taking them.I was put on elavil two months ago and it helped too.Have you tried warm baths with Epsom salt?I hope you urologist can prescribe something for your pain.
