I've been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, which i've had for over a year now. I just got diagnosed and no one seems to be taking it seriously. I havent been able to do anything, i've been completely exhausted all of the time and in horrbile horrible pain, which seems to be coming from my urethra area. I just don't know what to do.. the doctor gave me some Neurontin but it doesn't seem to be helping. I've tried the high oxalate diet and that doesnt seem to do much either.
is there any home remedies that seem to help for anyone? or is there any kind of pain pill should be asking for next time at my doctor visit (which is next week). I've already spent so much money on doctors and i just need some help!!!!!! Posted on 08/11/09, 04:08 pm |

Hi Steffi,
So sorry to hear you are in pain. And no one believes you. They all look at you like you're trying to get high. I don't understand why doctor's can't tell the difference between a person in excruciating pain and a drug addict (I can). I went through two years of this crap until I found a doctor in pain management who took me seriously. I am now on a low dose of oxycodone and trying to repair the damage of the last two years. The other Gloria has great advice. My advice is to go doctor shopping. Take someone who can advocate for you so they don't think you're crazy. There is a huge stigma attached to opiates but really, that's all we got for now for pain. Stay on this site; it also helps. We are here for you, The other other Gloria

thankyou all for your support and advice.
its just so hard because doctors dont take it seriously at all in my case.. i've seen so many to. and usually they just tell me that interstitial cystitis isn't a real disease. it's just making things so much harder. most of my doctors just said it was because i was depressed so i'm imagining everything.. i know its not that though. its just getting so confusing and hard.

Hi Steph, you put into words how I felt when I told people about IC. I would love to hear what Gloria says about IC. Ive got the most relief from a no sodium diet(low). I think you should ask around and find a different doc. I know it can be expensive. Hang in there sweetie. Ginger
