I am considering having an IUD put in buy am concerned about the side effects particularly these ones:
Increased risk of PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) Perforation Both of these can lead to infertility and I am dead set on having many children. I do not have any yet, but definite want to have at least 3 with my husband and plan on trying in about 3 years. Also, what complications can arise, if any, with IC? Advice? Ok so I never had an IUD so I can't say for sure. But I tried the Nuvaring. It is a plastic ring that you put inside yourself. Well it turned out really bad. Constant IC pain and the worst yeast infection of my life. It took two trips to the doctor and two different medicines to get rid of. But I know that those two are not related. This is just my example of something I tried even though I knew of possible conscequences and I really regreted it big time.
I would be leary of anything they have to go inside and inplant. If you were completely healthy and didn't have a chronic pain disorder I would say go for it but I guess you just have to decide if you are willing to live with in any pain or side effects that may arise. I wish you good luck! Tori

I currently use the Nuvaring and have for about a year and a half now. I like it a lot. I haven't had any problems with it and don't think it has cause any additional problems with my IC. I don't feel like my condition has changed since I stopped using ortho tri cyclin lo.
Thank you ToriBori for you reply! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'm sorry you had such a bad one with nuvaring :(

I would vote NO! Sometimes it just takes something to trigger a new IC symptom. Pelvic pain is one of the reasons why so many of us suffer so badly, not to mention progressive nerve damage. A pregnancy, a c-section, UTI, a procedure like an IUD is all it could take to trigger worse pelvic condition.........it is definitely different then the Nuar ring............it stays permanently and the constant presence could progress IC. It is definitely a personal choice but definitely a risk.
Good luck. I try to point out to you young girls that this disease is progressive, it can go into remission but truth be told it doesn't get better, as our bodies age the condition can take on a life of it's own so do all that you can to take care of yourself and take preventive measures as to not progress the disease any quicker. I have had this disease 26 years and through trial and error , education I have learned how to manage but in my twenties I partied, smoke, ate whatever I wanted, had two kids, and so on and believe me when I tell you the disease progresses even quicker , not to mention I developed ulcerative IC - Terrible pain that I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy. Take every precaution to avoid progression is the best advice I can give you ladies.
