I have been reading back on some old posts and am just wondering what other people here think is the draw of the computer. I wake up each morning and cant wait to turn on my computer and check everything. MSN, Facebook. Gmail, Yahoo why on earth I need that many emails is beyond me.
So can you tell me what it is that keeps everyone here day after day? For me its boredom and lonliness and habit i suppose. How do you break the habit? Do you even want to break the habit? Posted on 07/10/09, 06:07 pm |

It's the same for me. As soon as I'm awake I want to log on. It's even more important than the first caffeine boost of the day. For me, it's the brain stimulation and (like you) curiosity. I've made quite a few friends in DS and Yahoo groups/chat which is another (justifiable) reason I have to keep logging in. I popped into the library yesterday and took a book out which I plan to start reading tonight. Hopefully that'll draw me away for awhile. There is television of course but that doesn't get the housework done either. ;-)

For me...I think it's mostly habit....and because I find it so difficult to motivate myself to do anything else. Not sure how to break it but I'm trying this.
I'm writing out a list of whatever it is I want to do or get done...clean, read(a book/magazine), cycle, study. And giving myself treats if I do them...or punishments if I don't. (punishments are...push ups or stretches....I tried to say no internet for X amount of time but that just didn't work) And yes I do want to break it...I spend far too much time...sitting down on the pc....way too much time!

I am that way as well. I feel such a void when I'm not on there. If I can get on before I go to work, I would. Used to be on anytime I could - FB, MySpace, personal email accounts - but my work has stricter firewall settings. When this happened I was crushed! The first thing I'd do before even saying hi to my family would be to go right to the computer. I am trying to get help right now thru counceling, but it isn't helping. And I find I really want to be on and am missing the amount I used to be on...

Do all of you believe that you have disconnected with the human race? I have friends who tell me that it is the easiest way to get the attention they need. Why not go out, anywhere? If you are single, there is art, singles groups, ect. If you are in a relationship, it would seem that you should be putting your time into that. Reading is a good place to start along with working out. Start trying to connect with family or friends more.
