I am having some trouble sleeping again, but different this time.
I feel completely calm and relaxed. But when I doze off, my heart rate seems to increase but a LOT and it wakes me up. This goes on for about 2-2.5 hours until I nod off... any ideas what it could be? remembering (if you read past posts) I used to have strange head-spins etc. I haven't changed my routine except that I am going to bed a little later now... Used to be 11pm now its about 12pm. Its strange because the two weeks up to this, I was fine and I was even sleeping some nights without my relaxing mulungu tea. Posted on 07/11/12, 04:20 am |

Not sure I understand this. You say "when I doze off, my heart rate seems to increase but a LOT and it wakes me up."
If you are dozing, how do you know your heart rate seems to increase? You're sleeping, right? And if you are sleeping, then by definition your heart rate, breathing rate, body temperature, etc. will all drop. It could it be that you have actually slept an hour or two and are waking up between cycles of sleep. It's quite normal to wake up very briefly before entering another sleep cycle, which typically lasts 90 minutes or so. We typically experience 5 or 6 of these cycles each night, and usually forget about the in-between wake-ups by morning. It's during these in-between cycle times that panic attacks, increased heart rate, night sweats, and so on, can hit hard. And especially so if you are already in a hyperstimulated state from excessive stress and/or anxiety experienced during waking hours. If that's the case, you can try in-bed relaxation methods to help yourself calm back down if/when this happens. These methods include progressive muscle relaxation and deep diaphragmatic breathing, among others. Good luck!

Good question Sleeptrainingsystem, I'll clarify.
I doze off and then when I awake fully, my heart is beating very fast. It happens on that time when the brain just starts loosing contentiousness. I defiantly didn't sleep an hour or two because I feel loosing contentiousness. I also still wake up at night after a few hours sleep, but only for a few minutes and I dont feel any ill or strange sensations. PS last night was a good night again...

Also; when it does happen, it only takes me less than 30 seconds to calm down again. Once my brain is fully continuous and awake again, it realises what's going on and my heart rate goes down again. Until the next time it happens anywhere from 10-30 mins later.

if you told that to a doctor, they would say you got a panic attack.
when i was low on acetlycholine, that happened to me. take acetly-l-carnitine + choline to fix.

Panic attack? Gosh... I'll see how it goes and book a session with a psychiatrist if it doesn't get better soon.
