hello, i am new to this support group, i am 25 year old female who had endometriosis. I went in for endo related surgery and woke up finding out i had a lingual hernia. I have NO idea how big it was, where it was. I do have pictures of it so i know that they placed some type of mesh over it and "tacked" it into place with what looks like metal t-pins. They gave me no limitations besides lifting. Im almost two weeks out of my surgery and i still have a signifcant amoount of pain around my hernia site. I did have lap surgery, which i have had two times before. Sneezing is the WORST!!!!!! it feels like im pulling apart everything again. my back is killing me because im walking around like an idiot. Any suggestions or tips on how to make this process a little less painful?!? how long until im normal again? does this mesh surgery always work? i know absolutely nothing about it... will my muscles just grow over it? AHHH i dont go to the doctors until thursday. any help would be awesome.

Hi Julie, hope things sre going OK. I had inguinal hernia surgery last year so I would like to put your mind at ease with some of your concerns. Yes sneezing hurts, but please be careful. i know this mind sound silly but try to avoid sneezing, and if you do try to do it lightly so not to have the uncomfortable feeling at the scar site. I know at times it's hard to walk straight but you have to walk normally. The best advise from my Dr. was to KEEP MOVING! It was the truth because after a period of sitting or laying down the incision would tighten up. keep you activity moderate. My Dr. suggested short walks. Listen to your body it will tell you when you've walked enough. No excessive stair climbing. Here are a couple other activities that also hurt so be careful. Yelling, coughing, laughing, also be careful when going to the bathroom (#1 and #2) Be careful and don't force anything. That was pretty graphic but it is what it is:)I've done tons of research on this surgery and the mesh seems to be bullet-proof. Of course you always have to be mindful of it and never over-do it, but if you do some research it gets good results. Don't lift anything for now until you talk to your Dr. I hope this helped anymore questions feel free to ask.Tony
