Inguinal hernia surgery

I have put off having surgery on my inguinal hernias for over 5 years - out of fear I believe

I live near San Diego, and I know there are good surgeons here. I really need some input, because I
want this to be over with - I feel like I am stuck
and that feeling spills over into the rest of my life.

I just wonder if there are support groups that
meet face to face to talk about their experiences?

" My husband had his inguinal hernia repaired today and is very glad he did. He had his for 2 years and the Dr. told him that had he let it go any longer there would have been a chance he could have lost his testicle. After the surgery he said it was not as bad as he thought it would be. He is in some discomfort and is very tired from the anaesthesia, but he is sleeping soundly right now and the Dr. says he will be fine in about a month. you should go and get it fixed. Something much worse could happen if you don't. Good luck. "

" I am still in some pain but I am training and back racing. It's become a mind over matter thing(I don't mind because it doesn't matter). Most of the discomfort stems from excess(sex, training, lifting etc.). I still recomend having a dr who is willing to have options. Mine should have probrably never been done or just stitched upwith no cone and patch(he used a large patch on small hernia). A racing friend had a hernia which hurt when he ran, so he switched to the bike. Ten years later and it went away and healed on its own. A special case, but true. Another ex pro bike racer on our team was back and riding effectively within one month, so everybody is different, but a competent dr is the ticket. Research and find the right technique and dr for you. Thanks for the comments and best of luck! "
