Hi everyone, just was curious if anyone new about using expired meds. I asked my RE, well the nurse and she said it was fine. I used to shots of 300 Follistim fro a 900 pen that had been used once in April and has been in fridge for ove six months. They also gave me some Menapor that had expired. I am just wondering because my cycle sucked this time. 11 follicles only 5 mature. Could this have done something to eggs? Also I am so bloated and crampy still from ER yesterday. Is this normal. I feel like I can hardly walk. I hope I did not give myself an infection from using expired meds. I don't think using the Follistim was a good idea. I am going to call him tomorrow. Thnank you!

i am a pharmacist, so I can assure you that using expired meds did not give you an infection. Medicines have to be proven to be viable up until their exp date.......studies have shown that some meds are equally as effective up to 10 years past their exp date. The worst thing that can happen is that they aren't as effective, which doesn't really matter as much in this case, b/c your doc is monitoring your E2 and follie size and adjusting accordingly. I doubt the meds contributed to a poor cycle. Good luck with everything,and I hope you feel better soon! I will say a prayer for you!

I too haved used expired meds. In fact in my last cycle I had the best response I've ever had and all but 1 vial of my Gonal-f was expired. Good Luck with your cycle. I am anxiously awaiting you BFP!

i work for a pharmaceutical company and it is a huge myth that meds expire. during the first gulf war the gov(army) went to the big companies cos their stockpile of meds were near expire date the companies had to come clean and tell the truth that the meds dont really expire. pharmaceuticals is all about money. if u stored the meds correctly they will be fine. good luck.
