Hi ladies! Hope all of you are well. I had my ER today and I am so sad. Last IVF I did BCP for a few weeks and the Follistim and Menapor with Ganerelix. I produce 13 eggs and 10 of them fertilized. I thought it was a good cycle. Five months later I go for 2nd IVF and he changes my protocol
20 Lupron am & pm 300 Follistim am 75 IU Menapor pm I stimmed for 10 days. Only 10 eggs all of which were over 20, some really big like 27 on Monday when I triggered. Well today I had my ER and only five eggs were mature out of 11. I had been reading a lot on how bad Lupron and Microgflare protocols can be and hurt embryo quality. How can blood work and ultrasound show 10 mature eggs and then only get 5? Why would he change my protocol if I did well 5 months ago? 13 eggs at age 40 is not so bad. Should I call him now? Or wait and see what embryologist says tomorrow? I am so angry and heartbroken. I am so scared of what I will hear tomorrow. Thank you ladies.... Posted on 11/04/09, 07:11 pm |

How are you feeling after the ER?
I know you have been through a lot and I know you worry about "everything". I have learned that that is normal. I can only give you some encouraging words at this time and that is not to be discouraged about the number of eggs retrieved. I had a really "good" cycle my first IVF with over 20 follicles before ER. I ended up getting 18 eggs, 14 fertilized but no pregnancy. The second IVF we did I had only a few follicles and I was really scared that it was not going to work. They were growing slow and I was almost depressed thinking that it was not going to work again. But, much to my surprise, I did get pregnant. The rest is history. I understand how you are feeling, the worries that you have, but hopefully you get good news tomorrow.

Dorothy, it only takes one. It's quality over quantity! The new RE I met with last month said he would have put me on the protocol you were just on. I didn't understand that either. I'm praying for you. Please let me know what happens tomorrow. I'm visualizing all 5 eggs fertilizing and dividing like crazy!

Thanks ladies. You are so awesome. I just don't understand how with an E2 level close to 4000 and 10 follies measuring over 20 how less than half come out mature. None were empty or abnormal either. I called my RE but of course no call back. I will try to stay positive. I have just heard this microflare protocol is very harmful to egg quality and effects fertilization. Anyways-what is done is done. It is in God's hands now. Maybe I will get good news tomorrow morning.

I did a microflare cycle in 08 due to 2 prior cycles being canceled(didnt produce enough follicles) and got better quantity, like 3 more, enough to proceed to ER & ET! I had 7 follicles but they only retrieved 3 eggs, 2 fertilized and got a BPN!!! Since then, I havent tried again BUT plan on it VERY soon. I meet with RE on Monday to discuss any protocols!!! Keep me informed on your results, etc!! Im praying for you.

I did microflare the third time and it worked for me - I got more eggs and better quality and did get pg (and had a baby:). It's really experimental - it works for some women, not for others and they don't know until they try if it will work for you. But don't worry now - 5 eggs is still very good and I'd wait for the embryologist report and for ET. It only takes one!!! Good luck!
I would keep on asking him how come that only 5 were mature when u/s and E2 said otherwise.
