I just came across a strange 'Discussion Post' on my DS Daily Alert. After a few "clicks" and reading of info, I learned that ANYONE in the world can go to Google.com and type in Daily Strength- (then the member's profile name) and it will show TONS of stuff about you and what you have posted on this site! I googled myself and it shows many things about me, including all the posts I've read, written, commented on, etc...
I was so shocked to find this out! So far, I don't think it is giving access to my actual profile page and journal. However, it might and I just haven't found it on google yet. PLEASE research this for yourself! Please be careful about what you choose to post and comment on. Try to remember that it is OPEN to the entire public. This is such a disappointment and violation to privacy, in my opinion! :( Posted on 07/03/09, 08:07 pm |

Hi Jakeswife, you are too funny. I like your reference to Sara P. ;)
I do agree with you in regards to the internet. I LOVE the internet and thank God that it is there as a resource. I cannot tell you the number of times I have needed info about a symptom or health issue. When you google it, there are hundreds of references to read in regards to your topic. I do, however, feel that Daily Strength could have been MUCH more clear and straight forward about the lack of privacy. When I signed up, it only gave you bits of info about making your journal and profile page private for "friends only." FACEBOOK is sooooo different! You can search names all you want on FB and "IF" someone has elected the privacy setting, then you only see their profile picture and if you have any friends in common with that person... Daily Strength, on the other hand puts ALL your personal information and comments out there for ALL to see. Any and every post that you have commented on (from your cervical mucus down to your 'boobs' hurting) can be shown and read by all. This IS NOT the case with other sites out there, and DS should do something to update their system....OR BE VERY CLEAR TO THEIR SUBSCRIBERS THAT THE ENTIRE WORLD CAN READ AND FOLLOW THEM... I mean no offense to you, Jakeswife. I just had to comment back and help others who are reading this see that it does not actually have to be assumed that google and the world has a right to our private thoughts. Like Tom Petty sings, "I won't back down." Ha, ha. I love this site and many others do to. It has been such a saving grace for sooo many people suffering with so many different life-struggles. I'd like to see DS become more secure (like FACEBOOK) so no one gets hurt by their info falling into the wrong hands. Thanks for listening.

The only thing that makes me not worry is it only happens if someone would search on your screen name.. No one would know to do a search on Shanny2007 and find my particular info. If you could search on my name and find my journal entries, etc.. I might be more upset, but I just don't think many people are going to happen upon your information by searching on a particular screen name. My two cents.

Thank you all for the heads up. I can't believe this...I feel so violated and like Bethlehem mentioned DS SHOULD BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT OUR PERSONAL INFOMATION AND JOURNAL ENTRIES BEING EXPOSED. I dont know what else to say but this is very disappointing!!!!!

Yes, I found that too on Google. I was shocked to read my own post after I did a search.
Look at the http:// in the web address bar. Anything not "https://" means its not a secure server.
