I just came across a strange 'Discussion Post' on my DS Daily Alert. After a few "clicks" and reading of info, I learned that ANYONE in the world can go to Google.com and type in Daily Strength- (then the member's profile name) and it will show TONS of stuff about you and what you have posted on this site! I googled myself and it shows many things about me, including all the posts I've read, written, commented on, etc...
I was so shocked to find this out! So far, I don't think it is giving access to my actual profile page and journal. However, it might and I just haven't found it on google yet. PLEASE research this for yourself! Please be careful about what you choose to post and comment on. Try to remember that it is OPEN to the entire public. WOW! I had no idea! I am very disappointed too! I just googled "Daily Strength sonflowerjax" and my home page came up. That is horrible. I would love to know if we can do something about this??

I know Son... I'm disappointed too. I knew that my comments were public to the DS Infertility site but I had NO IDEA that the entire world could google and find out ALL about me. Facebook is nothing like this!!! It is very private. You totally control who sees your page and how much they see.
This site has been a wonderful source of strength and sanity for me in this whole IF process. I'm so disappointed to find this out. :(

this is very upsetting. we should have privacy within this site and thats it. our personal stories should not be made into a huge billboards throughout the world wide web. Its just not very fair to those seeking personal support. They need to make private settings on here and we should be able to decide on this for our own accounts.

I just did my name and WOW. Anyone can controll my information. I am delteing my photos completely. It is one thing to have friends on here it is another for anyone to be able to access our information. This is toltally unsecure and should be fixed.

You are absolutely right.... quite disappointing, when I joined this site the reason I didn't post photos was because i had seen peoples photos on other support websites & wondered wether this would be the case here?
I also make my journal posts private so that only DS friends can see them. I did this for the same reason, so that random joe doesn't get a glimpse into my private thoughts and feelings. I wonder if emailing Doug would help? If any of your figure out a solution pass it on. In the mean time - BABY DUST & Fireworks to you all - Have a happy 4th! :)

Wow. thank our for bringing this to our attention. I just tried and and was also shocked to see it.. I knew everyone on DS could see it. There has to be something we can do. I post a lot about my personal life, we all do! Thanks again :)

I figured this out a few months ago when I googled my user name. I use this name for everything. I did tell my SIL that she can google my name to see what we are doing fertility wise. They really should make the site and profiles secure!!!

I'm going to play devils advocate here for this is an issue that arises every few months.
This is the internet. If you blog you can google your user name and up comes YOUR BLOG. If you google and put in your home phone number guess what...up comes your name. Google you county property tax--guess what up comes your name, address and phone number. This is not unique to Daily Strength. It's the internet. I found Daily Strength through a search engine. If I couldn't search the internet to find information related to infertility then I wouldn't be here. If you're worried about privacy its simple--use psuedonyms, don't put your home town down, don't use family photos. If you need to relay that information do it through email. Like Sara P I'm stepping down now...

Wow, this is surprising to me. I understand that the discussion board is public and that a search engine will pull this. I am ok with that as that is how I found this website. I do not like that you can go to my profile and journal entries. There were some journal entries that I marked as private or for just for friends to view but if you google my journal entries you can view these as well.
