I have a Few Questions....

First of all, I knwo that we need to have my hubby's sperm checked before we continue much further with TTC, but he's the problem...

I have medical insurance for just me. He is not on our insurance, nor does he have his own through his company, as they do not offer it. And it would be so expensive for him to be on mine with me, that there wouldn't be a reason for me to work. SO, I am wondering if anyone knows on average what the cost of having his sperm count checked, WITHOUT insurance?

Next question... I am going to the DR on the 22 or 23 day of my cycle to have a blood test. She said this is to check and see if I ovulated.... Anyone have this done before? I am just wondering what to expect...

Also, ovulation kits... Never really used one, but should I? Since I should be having a normal period soon, and will then be taking clomid...

Any advice would be nice, because I am new to this, and I don't know very much...

P.s. I don't really know what all the abbreviations mean, except for TTC, lol, so dummy it down for me!

" Our analysis cost $100 and the RE recommended we do 2, a few months apart.
I have had many blood tests to check my levels, not bad at all and I normally got the results within 2-3 days.
I would definitely use an OPK. I've noticed that my cycle is all over the place and I ovulate a different day every month. So for me, they have been very helpful.
Good luck! "

" Our sperm analysis was $85 no insurance coverage because it was fertility realted!

I have had the dr visit to see if i ovulated they did a transvaginal ultrasound about a week before to see if i had and follicles ready and took blood work the next week and called that afternoon.

I took clomid with IUI (artificial insemination) and did an OPK (ovulation predictor kit)..doctor advised me what day to start, i got the digital one with a smiley face if you do or a blank circle if not, well worth the $$ because now i know what CD (cycle day) to expect ovulation! "

" I live in CA and my husbands SA was about 50 dollars. Not so bad,but I also have an individual plan(insurance)and it covers just about nothing.Ugh..But it is all for a great and worthy cause:) I do get blood tests on days 9,13,and 22.
I always use OPKs because I also find that I ovulate on different times each month instead of always day 14.So I would suggest trying them.
You know if you scroll back a few pages there is a answer to all of the abbreviations.Look for it because I found it helpful.
Good luck on your journey and I hope it is a short one. :) Just don't ever give up and know everyday you are one step closer to your dream. "

" Our's cost $100, but depending on the tests you need, it could go further if they need to do more tests-up to $300 max in our area.

The blood test will tell you a level for ovulation- you want a level of 8 or higher.

Ovulation tests do work, they work best in the afternoon or early evening. (3pm-8pm.) Do them at the same time everyday. Start them on Day 9/10 and continue up to Day 18? Depending on how long your cycle is. Order them online-They are much cheaper.
Good Luck and lots of love. "

" I don't remember exactly how much the real cost for Semen analysis was, but I know it was cheaper to go through the hospitals lab instead of the RE doctors lab. "
