Ok, first of all, we have basically been ttc our entire marriage... (4 years) But never with any DR help, or drugs. Just the old fashion way... Really we should say we weren't trying to prevent it. But now it has come to the point to where we really want it to happen, so I have went to the DR for some help. (I did go about 2 years ago, and was given medroxysomething, and clomid, and it didn't work, but we didn't pursue anything else)
Well I just went to the DR yesterday. She gave me Prometrium to start my period, since I have not had one since April, (and they are always irregular like that) She also gave me clomid to take once my period starts. And then on the 22 or 23 day of my cycle, I am supposed to go in to the office and have a blood test done to see if I ovulated, and she is also going to check my thyroid at the same time. Just a little further info about my situation, I have had ultrasounds done, and they don't find anything abnormal, I just rarely have periods. but when I do have them they last for over a month always. I have never kept track of them, because they last so long.... Anyone else have experience like any of this? I am new to all of this relatively, and could use all the help and support!!! Hi there and welcome
I cant say that my situation is exactly the same but let me give you some background. My DH and I were TTC for over four years as well. We went the Clomid route, the IUI route and eventually in June this year we did our first IVF and thankfully we fell pregnant for the first time. However, like you I also did the ovulation tests and other tests and all came out ok. Unlike you my periods were regular. My DH has a low sperm count but not so low that it was a concern to our RE. Anyhow, I think whats important to tell you is that we did three cycles of Clomid (all failed) and then three cyles of IUI (all failed). All scans showed that everything was ok. Or so we thought. After our third failed IUI my RE decided to do a lap just to be sure that everything is indeed ok. When I went into surgery they found serious endo. Luckily they could remove it all. That was August 2008. We were then told that there would be no reason as to why we wouldn't conceive naturally. Eight months later and still no pregnancy. We then did one more IUI which failed and then we graduated to IVF which worked. So, overall what I am saying is that the scans are not 100% accurate as they cant pick up stuff like endo. So it might be worth your while to do a lap if you can just to be. Good luck. Hope I havent scared you.

Have you been tested for PCOS? It sounds like thats what you have i would suggest a test for it to make sure.
Also i would start with a SA [sperm testing, if u have not done already] Just to be sure your not dealing with 2 problems. I have pcos an clomid does make me ovulate. After many rounds of clomid and not understanding why we were not pregnant yet we found out DH has sperm problems. Cant hurt to check. Not sure about your age but going 4 years is a long time. I would see a RE [fertility doctor] Wish you the best of luck i hope u can get the ball rolling!

I have always had irregular periods. When i did get them years ago, i was doubled over in horrible pain and bled non stop. Then i would skip through months and months of not menstruating at all for years. i have been trying to conceive naturally for about a year now but so far this year i have only had a period once and it was due to provera - so 11 months no period. My boyfriend and i plan on getting married and having a family asap. I have finally been seeing a fertility doctor because i know that i can not do this on my own. I also have PCOS which is a big factor. I had multiple ultrasounds and bloodwork but nothing that sparked why i do not ovulate. I do know that I am set to get an HSG to flush my tubes and see if there are any blockages. After that I am going to start clomid. I am extremely new to this as well. I walked out of my last dr visit feeling completely overwhelmed with what we have to go through. I wish you the best and if you ever need support it seems i can definitely relate with you.

yes a sperm test is a huge factor also - i agree. my b/f will be going through this before my dr even puts me onto any clomid or anything.. he said he just wants to make sure this area is in normal range. because even if I have some ovulation issues.. low sperm count definitely will make it that much more difficult...
Also i have pcos, and it does seem you may relate....

Having a month long period must be so annoying! Good luck meeting with your doctors. I agree you should have semen analysis done. I waited 3 years to find out hubby has some issues like I do.

Before going on Femara, I used to have my period every second week. My doctor never wants to say I had PCOS because I ALWAYS had my period. One year, I almost wrote to Always asking that they send me coupons because I was such a frequent buyer. I am laughing about it now but, I have ruined so much clothe and bedding it is not even funny.
There is hope, I am now pregnant. Rather than Clomid can you ask about Femara ?

Hello,
welcome to DS. I wish you all the luck in the world!! I had a similar situation, We tried for 7 years, I would have a period for 3 months and then nothing for 3 months. So we went to the dr. to try and get me straigtened out, which never happened. but I would just take prometrium and kick start my period I would have ultrasounds to see how many eggs I released and we would go from there. Come to find out my tubes were blocked with poly-ups, so I had surgery to get them removed and 3 months later I got PG. Good Luck!!!! If you need to talk or vent I am available :)

I would certainly ask them to test you for PCOS as it sounds like you have the symptoms. If everything comes back normal and you are unsure about moving forward with fertiilty treatments you can try birth control for a few months. I know that it sounds weird but a girlfriend of mine did it to get her periods regular and then the 2nd cycle after she stopped she got pregnant.
Also, they put you on BC when you start fertility treatments so there must be something to it. Good luck!

I would do an HSG, an xrays where they see the shape and if the tubes are open, before spending any money in IUI. I did not do it before my IUI and waisted money and time. Try to find out what's going on before spending money in treatment that may not work. At your age you should be able to find out easier than me, being 41. At least you do not have the "old age" factor. all the best!!
