Bromocriptine--What do you know?

Tell me EVERYTHING you know about Bromocriptine.

My endocrinologist called--I've been on her mind she said--and she wants me to start this.

My CD 3 prolactin is FINE, but as I get later and later into my cycle it soars to levels seen in 3rd trimester pregnant women.

She isn't concerned (nor is RE--he said its no biggie at all, but endocrin wants to "help restore my fertility) but wants me to also have an MRI to rule out a pituitatry tumor.

So shoot--tell me it all--side effects, costs, how quickly it works--etc.

Incidentally my CD 3 prolactin is around an 8 but then on CD 25 its around 34.

" I don't know too much about it, but my RE put me on bromocrpitine (for about a week) starting the day of my embryo transfer the last two IVF cycles I did. He said my prolactin levels were elevated and this medication would take care of it. I didn't notice any side effects and it was covered by my insurance, so I think I had a copay of $10 for it. "

" I don't know much about it, but if your researching you might also look for Parlodel which is a brand name.

Good luck, I hope this is the key for you! "

" I too had a pituitary tumor, 9mm, and prolactin levels of almost 332! The normal range goes up to around 29, so at 34, are really not that far above that. I don't take bromocriptine, but a med called cabergoline taken twice a week rather than daily. I think that the side affects are similar with both meds, but can be more prominent with the bromocriptine. Mine included low blood pressure, dizziness, feeling fuzzy-headed (first 24 hours after taking the med for me), and a stuffy nose. After a few months the symptoms went away completely. My levels went low normal with in the first six-weeks of taking it and I had a follow-up MRI at 7 months and my tumor was completely gone. My co-pay is $10. You can check on the prolactinoma support group for more answers about bromocriptine someone on there should be able to tell you more about that med than I can. "
