Today I had my first IUI. My family and I are very close and my mother and grandmother has wanted to know all the steps along the way of our IF journey. My grandmother just called and asked if everything went well and I said yes. She asked if it hurt, and told her no just uncomfortable, then (are you ready for this?) she asked if it hurt my DH when they had to "get his stuff" LOL!!! She thought they had to go with a syringe or something. I couldn't bare to tell her the truth so I just said "no, it didn't hurt him." Haha! This made me laugh so hard!! It would blow her mind if she knew they had a room designate just for this with DVD's and magazines to help.

Anyway, while I'm posting I thought I would update you on how my IUI is going. The shots were not near as bad as I thought they would be, but so glad they are over. Hopefully forever. I have 5 follicles all on one side. I go back in on cd21 to check my progesterone level. Can someone tell me what this is for?

" Too funny! I think my grandmother would have a heart attack if she knew there were rooms like that!

Glad to hear your iui went well. Was this your first? Hopefully its the last! With both of mine i had cramping off and on for 24-48 hours which was sometimes a little worse than i expected. Everyone is different but wanted to give u a heads up.

If i remember correctly when my ob/gyn put me on clomid before she sent me to an RE, she did a cd21blood test to check if i had ovilated. But i could be remembering incorrectly. "

" That is stinkin' hilarious!!! I can't even imagine that conversation with my own grandmother! Thanks for sharing it!

As far as the progesterone....they check your levels to make sure they are high enough to sustain a pregnancy. If they aren't high enough they may support by putting you on progesterone suppositories. My RE requires the suppositories regardless....essentially they progesterone is what keeps your uterine lining from shedding (ie: your period from starting) If you had an implanted embryo and then your progesterone levels drop too low, you could shed and the embryo could shed alond with it. " OMG....that is so funny!! I can totally see my grandma asking me the same thing!!!

I am so happy that your family is such a big part of your IF journey!! I think it's so important to have that support!! My family was very stand offish in the beginning and it hurt!! I had it out with my mother about what I needed and their support has been so amazing lately!! "

" Too cute! Remember to take it easy for a few days (if you can). I tried to really relax and keep my feet up for a couple days after my iui. So exciting! I really hope it works for you! "

" I love grandmas! Mine has said some off comments too and it took me a minute to realize what she was talking about and then all I had in me not to laugh.

Hugs! "
