Discussion:
Ibuprofen and ovulation?

My clinic told me not to take advil around the time I was supposed to ovulate, because it would interfere with the process--I'm stating IVF on day 3 of my period, and am paranoid to take my usual advil for the pain, since some weird part of my brain is telling me that it might discourage follicles from growing. Am I being silly? Has anyone else been told to avoid anti-inflammatories at the beginning of their cycle for any reason?

" I take Ibuprofen 800mg for a herniated disc in my neck. My Re's office said absolutely no Ibuprofen/Advil from day 1 of my cycle on. They told not to even take over the counter strength because it can thin the lining of the uterus. They actually made a big deal about it in our IVF class. Told you all the names etc, like Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin. They really made it a point that they were all not good to take when doing IVF.
I know this sucks because when you are used to Ibuprofen, Tylenol just does not cut it. "

" I've got chronic back pain and have the same dilema. My RE said it's ok to continue using ibuprofen until ER. My lining has been great in the past - so maybe he's not worried about that with me. Not sure why the different answers. I'm tapering it just in case - I'm going to see how little I can possibly get away with - and now that I'm 1 week away from ER I'm going to try my best not to use any - we'll see how it goes! "

" My RE said no Ibuprofen because it can prevent you from ovulating. But I only found out cause I took some the day of and after my HSG and I mentioned something to him and that's when he told me to stop taking any "

" I was told no ibuprofen but acetometaphin (tylenol) was ok. I had lots of follicles and eggs so it didn't seem to hurt me any. "

" I was also told no Ibuprofen. The only time I was allowed to take it was right before my ER and ET, but I am also taking baby aspirin. The only thing I am suppose to take for pain is Tylenol. Good Luck. "
