On http://www.eurekale rt.org/pub_ releases/ 2007-07/pw- pw1070207. php

there is a study reported using 100% Pomegranate Juice for mild and moderate ED.

This was a pilot study in the International Journal of Impotence
Research (http://www.nature. com/ijir)

The results were that "Forty seven percent of the subjects reported
that their erections improved with POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice,
while only 32% reported improved erections with the placebo (p=0.058).
These results compare favorably to a recent 24-week study using a PDE5
inhibitor (such as Cialis), in which roughly 73% of subjects reported
a benefit from the PDE5 inhibitor and 26% reported a "placebo effect"
(i.e. experiencing improvement while on the placebo)."

The results are thought to be due to the antioxidant effect of
pomegranate juice, which can prevent free radical molecules from
messing up circulation.

There are many anti-oxidants, including grape seed extract and vitamin
C and E, etc. Anything that effectively improves blood circulation may
improve erections in men who do not have severe
ED. I have read that B-6, B-12 and Folic Acid can help the heart and
improve erections. Claims have also been made that resveratrol will
increase erections.

The question is what is "mild" or "moderate" ED? The contact person for the pomegranate study is
listed as Pam Holmgren pholmgren@pomwonder ful.com

Could it be that "mild" or "moderate" ED is a condition in which
certain food supplements will enable a man to have erections adequate
in a consistent way for having vaginal intercourse, but the erection
problem is not so bad that prescription drugs have to be used.

When erection problems are due to mlld circulation problems and/or low
levels of nitric oxide delivered to the penis, some food supplements
combined with help from one's female partner,
who brings him to an erection by hand or mouth, apparently work.
If the woman cannot bring him to an erection by hand or mouth, then he
might have more severe ED.

If several
food supplements do not work, then the man might have more severe ED,
in which viagra, or other (PDE5) inhibitors, which help maintain
erections, can work for intercourse. Other PDE5 inhibitors are Cialis
and Levitra. But the PDE5 inhibitors can have side effects. Penis
injection therapy with a drug like .Trimix apparently will cause a
full erection without any stimulation of the penis by contact., and maybe also without any sexual thoughts or anticipation of sex. Thats
exciting but many men don't want needles stuck into their organs - and
there are stories about guys who were injected and have erections that
won't go away for several hours.

On http://www.primev.com/Arginine.htm

it is said that
"Arginine has been linked to enhanced immunity, the release of the
Human Growth Hormone (HGH), greater muscle mass, rapid healing from
injury, increased sexual potency, and helping to reverse
atherosclerosis." (My comment:: In the literature that is some doubt that arginine will stimulate the production of human growth hormone, though one older study in Italy does claim it did)

"Arthritis. Found in high concentrations in the connective tissues,
arginine is a component of collagen that plays a vital role in the
production of new tissue and bone cells."

"Fertility. Seminal fluid contains substantial quantities of arginine,
and arginine may be beneficial in treating sterility in men. [13] In
one study, men with low sperm counts took 4 grams of arginine orally,
with 80% of the men showing significant improvement, in some cases
resulting in pregnancies. [9] Arginine is also noted by one researcher
for its ability to increase libido and induce erections. [7, 8]
Arginine, ornithine, and aspartic acid have been shown to have a
positive effect on sperm viability and motility. "

On http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/co...

Cathy Wong says "L-arginine is an amino acid that the body uses to
make nitric oxide, a substance signals smooth muscle surrounding blood
vessels to relax, which dilates the blood vessels and increases blood
flow. Relaxation of smooth muscle in the penis allows for enhanced
blood flow, leading to an erection....One study involved 50 men who
took L-arginine (5 grams a day) or a placebo. After six weeks,
significantly more men taking L-arginine experienced an improvement in
sexual function compared with men taking the placebo."

According to http://news.softpedia.com/news/L-A...

"L-Arginine - an amino acid which abounds in some foods - is also
extremely important.
This molecule is a precursor of the nitric oxide, which opens the
penile vessels to be flooded with blood to get the erection state. No
nitric oxide,
no erection.
A new review of dozens of researches confirms that L-Arginine relaxes
the muscles in the penis, raising the blood flow. The blood
circulation and flow determine what defines an erection: frequency,
size and hardness.
L-Arginine was also found to stimulate the pituitary and thymus
glands, whose secretions are involved in regulating the sperm
production, so this amino acid, besides boosting sexual capacities in
males, also raises their fertility."

I found that even 750 mg of arginine a day will have some effect in
increasing arousal and erections, and arginine seems to increase the
secretion of cowper's gland fluid, which is a sign of arousal. I
began taking arginine for arthritis no knowing then that it is a
precursor of nitric oxide which is part of the erection process.

Arginine is usually sold with lysine and also with lysine and orthithine.
