Jakobsmommy, did your son recieve the DTP or the DTaP? Are they the same thing? My daughter just got her DTaP and has had diarrhea and been really fussy since. She's selectively vaccinated, one at a time, no or low aluminum and no mercury. I specifically request certain manufacturers. I am very scared, not that long ago, I was in the emergency room and a mom came in there with her 14 months old who had a seizure. 3 days before he had gotten the MMR vaccine, he had a fever ever since. I told her to report it. It scares me, but so does my child contracting a debilitating illness. I don't know what the right thing to do is. I just prolong the wait in between vaccines and don't get the ones she doesn't NEED (varicella, flu, hep B and A etc...). I do believe that if my baby would die from vaccines, I wouldn't vaccinate any of my children ever again.

He recieved the DTaP. I am not sure if they are the same or not. I would look into it. As far as the diarrhea goes, I know certain meds cause certain side affects. I just dont know if I can give any comforting words on the subject. They told me all of the symptoms my son had were normal due to vaccinations....my son was dieing from an infection, and those are the same symptoms? Doesnt seem very safe to me. And they administered them two and a half days before he died...told me he was fine, not sick and should recieve them. They were SO wrong about that, something so simple to determine with what he had...I can not trust anything they tell me about anything anymore.....it's hard.. I do think you are very wise doing it how you are.

I read an article (the title escapes me), but it said that the CDC said that each vaccine is tested and "proven" safe, then passed on for public use. HOWEVER!!!! They never test the effects or safety of multiple vaccines given all together. So, in essence, each one is safe to use individually (as they say). My problem is that I don't think that parents are reporting side effects, so the incidences that they occur are low per the CDC, probably cause they are underreported. Scary stuff!

Or the parents do report them, they are just brushed off like so many other situations. And they may be proven safe in a study they did, but what's good for one child may not be good for the next. That's like assuming all meds are safe, but there are people who have deathly side effects to some of them....

I am reading a book called Vaccines - Are they really safe and effective? by Neil Z. Miller. In this book it does talk about the Dtap and it specifically talks about relationship between Pertussis and SIDS. It states that Babies die at a rate 7x greater than normal within 3 days after getting a pertussis shot. Also describes the difference between DTP and DTaP. DTP is the standard whole-cell pertussis vaccine. DTap is acellular vaccine. They claim that it is less toxic and more effective than the std vaccine. Also as far as the testing on the DTaP, this book says that the United States never conducted its own clinical tests to determine whether the pertussis vaccine is safe and effective. Instead, it relies on data collected by Great Britain during the 1950's on children between 6mths and 1 1/2 yrs. It also says that 80% of those babies were 14mths or older. Yet we are giving these to 2 mth old babies. I still question the effects of this shot on my son. Really makes you think.

I also read in an article that says that infants get pertussis from us adults and older children, so if we would vaccinate ourselves and bigger kids and do good hand washing, our littlest ones wouldn't have to be vaxed against it. However, it's easiest to "force" the littlests ones cause they can't object, and it's a way to prevent the spread of an illness. Adults go in to the doctor a lot less frequently than babies, so it's easier to get to them than us. I would gladly take the vax over my baby, but they can't ensure 100% compliance with adults. Sick isn't it? We could avoid our youngest's exposure, but not everyone will stick with it and get their vax as an adult. I mean, if you have an infant and you get the flu shot, chances are your baby will benefit from you not getting the flu since it's most likely he'll get it from you, right?

We are a non vax family. I havent lost any children to vaccines but I still feel the risks are too high for my children. My oldest son received shots on schedule to 1 year and then we stopped. Hes the least healthy of my children..the other 2 are vaccine free.

I did want to point out, not all vaccines prevent transmission. The TDaP is marketed towards adults and older children now, the advertisements claim you should be vaccinated to prevent babies and other immune-compromised individuals from getting pertussis. However, there is no proof or studies done to actually show that getting vaccinate means you wont carry the disease and get someone sick. The DTP was proven to be ineffective at preventing transmission and they never bothered to test the TDaP or DTaP (yes they are different). So, my opinion is that people are being unnecessarily vaccinated to protect their babies. Its time for some REAL studies on safety to be done.

My son died of SIDS the day after his 4 month immunizations, not sure if there is a connection???....
