IgA Deficiency and Food allergies

Hi, I just joined this support group! I have a daughter who is 1 year old and was recently diagnosed with IgA deficiency. She has always been sick and had to be on a special formula since she was born. When we introduced solids into her diet she started getting really sick (strep, RSV, flus that lasted a couple weeks each time). At my persistence her doctor finally recommended us to a specialst. We found out that she is IgA deficient, has reflux as well as multiple food allergies. She is allergic to milk, barley, oats, wheat, eggs, chocolate, orange and garlic. Does anyone else have these issues with their IgA deficiency?

" Yes, allergies are common with IgA deficiency and other PIDs. Our immune systems sometimes over react to things like foods an other things too. Personally I have multiple food allergies as well, and have for my whole life.

Glad you were persistent and found out so soon that your daughter has a PID. Many wait years for chronic infections to alert doctors.

" dont' know if the dr told you but IGA Def. people CAN NOT have a REGULAR Blood Transfulsion the blood must be put thru a special process or a reaction can develop.
i am IGA def and have had several blood transfusions due to MG, but because i told them i was IGA def, they were ready and did the 1st transfusion in the ICU as a precaution. "
