My daughter was recently diagnosed with IGA deficiency. I was wondering what steps we should be taking to help her. I am not overly confident in my GP who did the test and diagnosed her. However she has done nothing else at all. She did explain that she should come in as soon as she is sick,,,which is almost all the time.
I was just wondering if my daughter should be referred to a specialist like an immunoligist or something? Is that what people normally do? I live in Canada so your GP has to refer you to one, you just cant go on your own. My doctor does not like to refer people to a specialist i read on rateyourdoctor.com, according to other patients evaluation of her. That was my take too. I just dont know how to help my daughter and i was just wondering the course of treatment for other people. Do people with this condition usuallly see a specialist? I have CVID and am IgA deficient...I would always recommend an immunologist (who may want to do further testing). I would contact www.primaryimmune.org and ask for a referral (I'm not sure if they refer in Canada or not but can point you in the right direction). Currently there is no treatment for IgA deficiency...basically you treat the symptoms. Here are a couple of good sites;
