I have a hard time considering this mild. I have developed asthma, life-threatening food allergies, allergies to almost all anitbiotics, anemia, pernicious anemia, chronic diarrhea, weight loss, and now lupus.
I can no longer go in the sun, I can't eat beef, pork, lamb or milk, I have rashes and joint pain every summer. This is supposed to be a common disorder, and about 25% of people develop what I have. So, why is there hardly any info on this? Or research? And it seems I can't find anyone else like this. Any one out there with any of these weird problems? Yvonne Posted on 10/18/07, 03:10 pm |

Yes, isn't it something? every year it's something else - anemia, pernicious anemia, asthma, food allergies, drug allergies, arthritis, sun sensitivity, bruises, esophageal thrush, weight loss, and then the lupus. Every spring my husband and I look at each other and wonder, what next? It's like a crap shoot. Yvonne

You could have Celiac and not lupus... please google celiac and Iga deficiency.... I have both. You also need a good immunologist that specializes in Iga deficiency. I am being treated for my Iga with a weekly infusion. If you read about Celiac... I am sure that the bells will go off.. google celiac and lupus and you will be surprised as well.

Oh yes, I have had 2 endoscopy/colonoscopies with multiple biopsies. All negative for celiac and anything else. I had them done at the University Hospital/Medical School here in NJ, and the gastro's told me to get a rheumatologist that my digestive disorders were caused by something else - a connective tissue disorder. It certainly looks like celiac, but a gluten-free diet doesn't help. As a matter of fact it is the sun that triggers my symptoms. Which are bruising, rashes, arthritis, fevers, and whatever else is coming.
But thank you for the response. Yvonne

Hugs to you. I know what it is like. I too am scared to breath this or touch that, cause I may react. I eat food and put of with pain after. It is so discouraging for me when I get sick and the Pharmacist says, you can't take the meds for this. So just do what you can to help your self.
Keep hanging in there. It's tuff, but there is someone who you may be able to help because of what you have to go through. Hugs

If you have IgA issues....you will have a FALSE NEGATIVE when given a blood test for Celiac.....They test the IgA in your blood for Celiac... If you do not have any...or are very low..with IgA... then your Celiac test WILL come back as negative.... I suggest going on the diet and check the internet for everything... regarding digestive problems...asthma and IGa along with celiac and Iga.... trust me.. if you go on the gluten free diet for just a week or two you will see the difference...

Hi! Yes, I'm aware of the false negative tests, but both of my biopsies are negative. They were specifically looking for celiac, among other things. And I've been on a gluten free diet, many times, once for a few years. Makes no difference at all. And now that my most recent biopsy is negative, which is considered the only definitve test for celiac, I can relax as I have so many other foods I can't eat. My Drs attribute the chronic diarrhea to the IgA being absent in my digetive tract.

Hi Chinky and hugs to you too. I too am aware of how frightening it can be to get sick, as I am allergic to most medicines. Even a scrape is a concern, because I am allergic to topical antibiotic ointments - like neosporin and bacitracin. It's crazy. Yvonne

I know what you mean, when I came down with it it was a rare condition. I dont have any of the things that you have except asthma, but when I quit taking my gammaguard years ago I got so bad that now I am on oxygen and have emphysema. All I want to say to everyone right now is,PLEASE IF YOU ARE EVER PUT IMMUNO THERAPY, DO NOT STOP TAKING IT. TAKE IT SERIOUS OR YOU CAN END UP LIKE ME. I am finally taking them again, I have a better Dr, that treats me and I no longer have any issues with my gammaguard. PRAY and stick to the plans set out by your doctors. what I am diagnosed with is HYPOGAMMAGLOBULINEMIA

Hi all, I just had an upper endoscopy and the GI doctor took two biopsies (one being for celiacs). I had no idea beforehand that IGA immunodeficiency can also have celiacs. The blood tests he took came back negative. He did say that the biopsy will be the true test.
We dont know if I had food poisoning recently, reaction to all the antiobics I was taking for a sinus infection stemming from pollen allergies. The sinus infection that would not got away and it took 3 rounds of antibioitcs. One of them was Augmentin which I have not taken longer term before. The GI doctor said it could be something else of concern. Boy, there is always a new twist to IGA isnt there. I have a follow up with this doctor on Friday and he will share results (including many blood tests).
