We sound like we're in the same boat. I'm having a hysterectomy on the 8th. I'm having the divinci surgery though. I'm not sure I can be much support as far as advice goes, but just know your not alone. Just think how great it'll be not to have to worry about all that pain every month. A few days or week of been out of comission sure sounds better than however many more years to have periods. That thought has helped me alot. As far as the not feeling like a real women; only you can determine that one. No punn intended, it's what you are on the inside, past the tissues that will be removed. If they took all your insides out and removed your breast your still 100% women. So, just remember that. Good luck. I'll be sweating these 2 weeks out with ya.

Not too sure how much help I can be but here goes-I had a "Davinchi" robotic surgery on the 15th. When I awoke I was in pain but hooked up to morphine via iv. First let me say they took out my uterouse and fallopian tubes, left both overies. All this through 5 small holes in my stomach! Yes it was very pain ful to get up and for the first day I was in bed as they have a cathedar in you. Once that was out I was able to S L O LW L Y get up and get around. Do everything slow, and you'll be ok, Oh and try to get all housework done before you go in. I made the mistake of not doing housework and when I got home oh gesse! I have a 12 yr old and a 3 year old so messes everywhere and my husband cleans on rare occassion. I wish you the best. ~heather

welcome! You really need to be asking the big question. WHY?. It could be endometriosis. Ask a lot of questions about the condition you have. All you need todo is call your doctors office and ask the nurse for more of your results or set another appointment and talk to your doctor.I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with varys removed. Mine was a long recovery. I had adenomyosis and endometriosis and it was very painful before my hyst. My sister in law had a vaginal hyst about 4 years ago. She did pretty good and the recovery time is much better since you are not cut open like I was. Take some good advice and find out what is going on first before your hysterectomy. Then take it from there. Dont go into a major surgery with out knowing what is going on with you. That would truely worry me. Let us know what they say. Remember this is your body. If they wont give you all your information get with another ob/gyn and the are required to fax all your medical records to that new doctor. Ihave been through this before. Take care. Staci

Hi! I am also 31 and having a hysterectomy on the 7th of July. I also have three children and had my tubes tied 8 years ago. I know exactly how you're feeling. The surgery itself is not the issue for me, I think i'm more afraid of the aftereffect of losing the "woman parts" and how my mood will be affected afterwards. Everybody I talk to tells me I have nothing to worry about. I would start by talking to your ob/gyn and find out exactly why you need the surgery. Good luck and i'll be thinking of you!

well it looks like most of us are in the same boat!! i have about a week left till mine, july 1st, i am having the divinci one also to remove my uterus. i too am scared out of my witts! but i am thinking of the long run, i get scared right now, almost to the point of a panic attack because my so called periods are so bad, i have been bleeding for months and months and i am on the pill so i should not bleed at all! so not knowin when the bleeding will start or if it will ever stop, is what is helping me stay positve about this surgery. i know i will be in pain but in the long wrong, not having that panicked feeling ever again will sooooooo be worth a few weeks of pain!! its hard to stay positive because of the scarieness of it all, but we have to, its what will make us recover quicker. did the doc tell you anything you need to do to prepare? i bought all my things yesterday, honestly drinking that stuff to make you go to the bathroom, and the enima scares me more than the surgery! lol!!!! i have never done that before! the doc said she wanted me to take reglan the day before too, but i said no cause i was worried about some kinda weird reaction, alot of my friends have had problems with it, but i also had to give blood this past week for the surgery also. which was my first time doing that!! wow~ it wasn't bad except i am pretty anemic so it hit me hard and wore me out for about 2 days. but if you have to do that, do it first thing in the morning when have the most energy and after you eat a huge hearty meal with lots of sugar.

I can't identify with the "not feeling like a real woman" part, but I do understand the fear part. Sadly, I've never had children, heck, I've never had sex, but that's beside the point. The fear you're feeling may be due to the uncertainty. Having surgery before never quells that feeling. However, I do think you really need to find out exactly why they think you need the operation. I had a friend who had an hysterectomy before she graduated from high school. Later it turned out that the procedure was completely unnecessary and that she could have been treated with (an inexpensive) medication instead. That doctor was sued. He had been performing numerous hysterectomies for the money and not out of medical necessity. After she found out, she left school. To this day, I have no idea where she went. Nobody has heard from her in over 20 years. So make certain this is absolutely necessary!
But about tray70's comment about still being 100% woman, yeah, that's true. You'd still be that, just not a living one (I'm not serious, this is just a really bad joke, you don't have to laugh if you don't want to).

Hey everyone, well I had a vaginal hysterectomy in beginning of June and just went back to work. For the past few days I have been feeling a little different and was wondering if ///anyone knows any symptoms of a fallen bladder?/// The reason I ask is because you know when you have a urinary tract infection and you feel the urge to go and you dont...well thats how I feel but I dont have any burning? Can anyone help?
