I will be scheduling my hysterectomy today and was just looking at different sites and postings. I dont see much on the positive or good outcomes of hysterectomy. I think I am going to be optimistic and assume that those with great outcomes just dont post because they have no need for suupport.

" You are right. Most people who have had bad experiences post it on the internet. It's like watching the news. It's always bad but does it happen to you? A hysterectomy is one of the leading surgery's preformed on women every year. Sure, you can expect some pain. You have just had a major surgery and a part of you is removed for ever. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with ovary's removed this year It wasnt an easy recovery and I was told it wouldnt be. I tried to read up on hysterectomy's and I finally had to stop. It was nothing but bad news and I tell other women not to look into it. Your Dr should be telling you everything before your surgery and you need to ask as many questions as possible. Good luck & my prayers are with you... "

" Thanks so much for your response. I hear an abdominal hyst is much more painful and will require a longer recovery time. I am doing it laproscopically (sp?) and dont anticipate a long or painful recovery (realistically, I do anticipate down time). One ovary may have to be removed the other one should be fine and left in tact. I'm actually looking forward to a better quality of life in regardst to my period. I will post, maybe even blog especially if it is good news. Thanks again! "

" i am sceduled for a hysterectomy, just uterus will be removed, for the 1st of july. i am having it laporascopy too(?) byt the divince method and i just had my pre-op at the hospital this friday the 12th. they told me that within two weeks you will be healed. now that seems fast but thats what my doctor insisted. she says this method is the safest, has less complications, least amount of blood less, and the least risk for infections. she also has been doing them for years, she actually had 5 this week!!!! so with that, i feel 100% better now! i am the workds biggest chicken! i do not even go to the dentist lol! also, she said that she does the surgerys in the morning, by the evening we are up and walking the best we can, eating dinner and going home! seems soon, huh? but she says thats how it is with laproscopy surgery. also she gives a light sleeping pill with a few pain pills and thats it. she even assured me that most of her patients they only take ibuprofin! i am sure each person is different and so is their tolerence of pain, so with that it all depends on your attitude and how you know your body. she also told me that for the first days to take it as easy as possible but to walk, so thats good and by the third day we shouldn't need pain medicine. so with all that info it makes me feel soooo much better. ya know these operations are not like when grandma used to get them! they are so much more advanced and safer, also i have a friend who had to have an emergency abdominal full hysterectomy with everything removed and yes she was in a pin for a few days afterwards and her body felt weird and different but she said within a few weeks( which recovery is alot longer when its done that way) she got used to it, and she is great right now!! so have both of my neighbors, and they are great also~ so i wish you the best and keep your spirits up, even if you do have a little more pain then normally expected it will be worth it in the end!!! good luck!
