Despite research I still can't get a fix on how big my fibroids are. No idea of placement except was told "all within uterus" and "here, there and everywhere".
Said I have no options but hysterectomy. I am not convinced and would appreciate any and all assistance regarding your decision making process. What questions would you advise for mine? You should know up front I think some GYN's are taking uterus' like scalps. I also believe the uterus is not a "dummy" organ post childbearing. Have 2nd opinion scheduled. Should only have a few more years of menses, if that. Thank you for your time. Posted on 07/10/09, 01:07 pm |

If this is any advice I had some fibroids and they werent sure how many and I had adenomyosis and I also got a second opinion if I should have a hysterectomy. My second opinion didnt know my first gyn. I sent in my medical records before I went in to see him. My periods were every 2 weeks for 2 years and I tried EVERYTHING to slow them down and I had extreme pain with my periods. In the end I had my hysterectomy and found out through biopsy this was the best thing I could have done. I was told I also had endometriosis and the only cure for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy. I had my total abdominal hysterectomy with ovarys and tubes removed Feb of 09. Are you having pain? I know with my age I couldnt go on waiting till menopause. Also, my gyn really didnt want to do a hysterectomy on me. He really tried every option before major surgery that changed my life forever. Its good to hear your getting a second opinion. I think more women should do this before going through such a drastic life changing decision. I have 12 years before I'm 50 and all the side effects I have to worry about till then is something I now have to deal with for the rest of my life. What is your gyn telling you? Is this something you can deal with for a couple more years? I put down on paper all the pro's and con's of having a hysterectomy. I didnt really have a choice by the time I had mine Ihad been bed riden for 3 months in so much pain but I lasted a couple years before having mine. Good luck and I hope you get the answers your looking for.
