Welcome to DS! I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with ovarys removed. My sister in law had a vaginal hysterectomy. You dont have to have a bowel prep for a hysterectomy. You wont be able to eat or drink, no candy, after a certain time before your surgery. It's kind of strange having to stay in the maternity ward for your recovery so you might hear other women having babies. No matter what way you have a hysterectomy it is a major surgery and you will have to take it easy post op. It is a much easier recovery though than having to be cut on. That takes the longest of them all. I went through the same thing as you. Just dont read all the horror stories on the internet. That will only make it worse on you. You wont be in the hospital more than 2 days if everything goes good. I stayed 2 days and was released. You will be very sore post op but thats expected. Your Doctor will send you home with a list of all the donts and you will have to make sure you follow them! You dont want to cause any more stress on your body than its allready going through. I hope some of this helps you . When are you going on for your hyst? and why are you having one? Your age kinda threw me off since your very young to be having one.
Take care and if you have any other questions you came to the right place. All the women here are awsome!!

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago today. They did it with lap assist. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight before my surgery. I had to give myself a enema the night before too. I opted to shave myself so that was one less stranger down there lol. But shaving is done. I also refused the epidural for post op pain and had a pca pump instead. I stayed in the hospital for 1 day and things have gone great! A little uncomfortable at first but other than that no complaints. Best of luck to you!
