Hi. My doc wants to gie me a total hysterectomy. Is it a good idea? Has anyone had reoccuring endometriosus pain? Any side effects? I am worried about getting it done. I do not want any more kids just do not want any more pain.

I had endo on my uterus and I had some other problems too. We weren't aware of the endo prior to surgery though, we just suspected it. I had my hysterectomy due to my other problems (long, long history of issues)
I haven't had any issues with endo pain since. (I had horrible life stopping pain prior to the surgery) I have some issues with scar tissue, but nothing that I can't live with.

I didn't have endo so I can not really speak to that, but the side effects that I have had are ovarian cysts and weight gain. Both are much better than the pain I had from fibroids

I forgot to mention, I have my ovary removed (only had one at the time of hysterectomy) I am on hormones and that hasn't caused any recurance of endo (Probably because it was all on the uterus and nowhere else)

Hello. I know I am new here. I am recovering from a total abdominal hysterectomy on Feb 23.
The first thing that comes to mind, is have you discussed all options with your OB/GYN? Have you discussed your fear with him/her? That would be the first place to start. Good luck, keep us posted.

I would say if you already know you have endo and you do not get a hysterectomy, there is a REAL good chance the endo WILL come back unless you get that hyst. I had a vaginal partial hyst August of 1999 where they let my ovaries and tubes in. After that, I started having MAJOR pain, turns out the endo came back and moved FAST. Feb of 2000, I had total hyst and they had to cut open my stomach. The endo had in that short time period gotten on my bowel and bladder with a possibility of the need to remove some of my bladder and bowel (didn't need to be done) but they had to PULL off the endo from those organs. No reoccurrence since then of course but I have no reprod organs in there.

Honestly I can only tell you from experience - I was 25 and it was 19 years ago, never had any pain again and had a complete hysterectomy. I went to 3 docs for complete evaluation, they did not know each other and then had it done, no regrets. Only you can make that call though. I would do it all over again. (I had endometriosis since I was 18, family history - mom, etc.) My doc knew what he was in for, surgery was long and I was glad once it was over. I also hear that now the surgery is alot different and takes less time. Everyone is different.
This is only my opinion and from my perspective, God Bless and take care -
