I am contemplating a hystectomy as I have been diagnosed with adenomyosis. I've always wanted a child. Now it feels like something in me has died. I feel totally empty and life does not seem to have a purpose. If there is any childless woman out there who had to face this similar situation, I would like to talk to you for some support.
Also I hear that woman who have hystectomies have bowel and bladder problems after the operation. Is this true? Any help would be great Posted on 04/16/08, 02:04 pm |

Just tears and tears with you. I am at that place where I am going to have to make the choice to have an hysterectomy so that my health will get better. My female organs are so sick that there are not medical advances that will make them well. I am at the place that I need to make the best choice for my long term health. I just hurt with you. It is so hard to come to terms with because I want to keep the organs God gave me... but i also want and need wellness. I have been talking to many women who have had an hysterectomy and they all have said positive things about it. My husband just wants me to be well, not sick, not in pain.
Hugs and hugs to you.

ps. talk to your dr. about these concerns. I have a long written list of questions I posed to my dr. And I did not leave til everyone was answered. One of my questions was about preventative measure to prevent organs from falling or moving out of place to prevent bowel and bladder problems . take care. feel free to message me on DS.

I didnt have kids before my surgery either, but I can't really relate still. I never wanted to give birth. I've never really wanted kids anyway, I'm too selfish for that, but I always figured if I changed my mind there was never any reason why I shouldnt adopt one of the many that need somewhere to go. It doesnt need to come from your body to be YOUR baby.
Although! I can help you with this, as far as the bladder and bowel problems ... I had none. Hope it helps!

I kept my some of my cervix, since that was still healthy. That should help with preventing bladder issues. Good luck with your desicion!

I had a radical hysterectomy 6 years ago, for heavy periods, and cysts. on my left ovary. I now regret having it. I should have gotten more than 1 opinion but did not. My doctor cleaned house, took everything including my cervix. A couple months ago my bladder fell, I'm waiting for a surgery date on that, the pain is unbearable at times, and I now have colon problems, all caused by the unnesscasary surgery. I know now I could have lived with the pain. I also gained weight. I regret having the surgery very much.

I had my hysterectomy 2 years ago, I never had any children, did not think I wanted any. The important thing here is you, my quality of life before the operation was not good, now it is great, am I sorry I cannot have a family, if I am honest yes sometimes, am I glad I had the op?certainly am. Do I feel empty? No. I am all the woman I ever will be and if I want children there are plenty around needing loved. It is all about balance and I really hope you find yours. . As for any bladder or bowel problems I had none. Good luck with your choices, If I can help let me know.

Hi I just had a partial hysterectomy on May 9, 2008. I am 35 and just met the love of my life and for the 1st time I wanted to have someone's child. I was scheduled to have a myommectomy and the doctor found over 100 fibroids and needed to remove my uterus only. This has been a very difficult time for me and I am currently trying to recover from surgery. I must say I feel better and notice my organs are functioning much better. I am almost at week 2 of post op. The bowel for me is painful only because mine was attached to the uterus and fibroids. My uterus was almost 7lbs. No bladder problems to date. Just taking it one day at a time. There are other options to have your own child or you can adopt one. I will keep you in my prayers.
