has anyone advice/remedies for their kids colds they'd like to share? my son seems to be in this cycle of coughing, raspy breathing and trouble clearing his chest. it is identical to something ive seen twice before and each time i rushed him to the doc to be told that actually his lungs are perfect and the low muscle tone causes even the mildest infection for him to sound like he has been on 20 cigs a day for the last 40 years........
i give him herbal tea and try to keep up the water (both of which he doesnt care for). my next step is to quit cows milk for a few days and see if that helps. is that a myth that dairy causes conjestion? he is particularly bad at night and propping him up does seem to help i'd appreciate any input. thanks Posted on 10/28/09, 11:10 am |

my son only recently had this same problem. He too is hypotonic and recently had his mmr vaccine, rendering his immune system somewhat compromised..long story short, he ended up with a slight cold ( i say slight because there was no runny nose or fever) and a horrible cough especially at night. then there was that rattling sound seemingly coming from his throat/chest which he couldn't clear efficiently. what i found worked for me was rubbing him everynight with baby vicks around his neck chest area and back...then i bundle him up and let him sweat out for a bit (not too hot though)... did this for a few nights and by morning his coughs were more forceful hence his chest would become cleared... but sometimes there is rattling in the chest area without infection. i was told b/c of the low tone when the saliva builds up (due to teething or whatever) because they don't cough as forcefully as other children without hypotonia it may result in that rattly sound....hopes this helps...but yea, baby vicks, now on my must have list...good luck!

I'm freaking out about every little cough, fever, scream right about now. My 4 nephews came over yesterday, all with coughs, all getting over H1N1. My only saving grace is that I am visiting family where I LOVE the chiropractor nearby. We're getting her adjusted every few days while we're here. Keeping my fingers crossed otherwise. I'd love to know some tips as well.
