feeling low today...went to therapy with my son and he did really well actually he's starting to push up on his arms and sits (albeit for seconds) by himself... but hes going through stranger anxiety, and so when ever I give him over to the PT he starts to cry,(he's 11 months) and this sometimes continues through the entire session.. his crying though, thanksfully doesnt stop him from getting through with his exercises though, he would cry and still bat at things and try to grab things in fron tof him... but it really hit home today that the things we take for granted (like sitting up and pushing up and rolling over in bed) he has to struggle so hard to achieve...and it hurt...it hurt to see him try so hard.. why couldn't things have just turned out normal for him? sigh... feeling low...

i hear you and feel your pain
so may times in the last 7 months i have had those thoughts my son started PT back then and he has moaned, groaned and yelled his way through it. he is now 16 months and finally looks like the moving is not torture for him. i feel like a huge weight has lifted. hang in there. last week he pushed up to sitting for the first time and i almost cried, mainly because it looked so easy - it was the first gross motor movement that i could say he did with ease...... when i was at your stage (only 5 months ago) i was falling apart too. all i want to send you is my hope and solidarity. you will both grow into this and realise a new 'normal'. meanwhile, keep finding out as much as you can.... peace

thanks for responding; thanks for the words of encouragement, God knows i need them. will keep pressing on as daunting as it can be sometimes. struggling to acheive'normalcy' is the only life he knows right now, but God willing and mummy ensuring his efforts will not be in vain. He has PT again tomorrow and it will be another day of new strength, for him physically and me emotionally. that's how i'm trying to take it..day by day...little by little..
i pray that your son continues on his upward path, i celebrate each victory with you..thanks again for your encouraging words...

hello, just joined the group today. I have been feeling low myself. My son will be 2 in September and he has started walking with help so don't give up! PT is very beneficial. My son also has speech delays, so with everything together I often wonder what is causing his hypotonia (docs havent figured it out yet)I wonder about autism and other mental handicaps. but hang in there it is tough because it does not seem like there a lot of other people out there that have children with the same problems.

welcome katymudd, thank you for your encouraging words. Has a MRI been done on your son? I keep hearing that docs can't figure out what's causing the hypotonia, and its frustrating! only when the root cause is discovered, can one move effectively and completely forward. Happy to hear your son is progressing so nicely! I can only pray and hope that the same rings true for my little tyke! each day he's getting stronger though, so i will remain hopeful! thanks again for your words of encouragement.

I have a 20 month old son who is not yet walking and has hypotonia. His only affects his trunk and legs so he was late with all of his gross motor skills. He started "butt scooting" last December and just learned how to crawl about 2 weeks ago. He has been in physical therapy through Early Intervention since May of this year. He has had almost every test done (MRI,Bloodwork etc.) and no cause has been found. The physical therapy has made a huge difference. I would love to hear success stories from other parents. I'm anxious to see what the future holds for him. I have also started a blog about our journey. I hope to raise awareness of hypotonia, provide some support and information to others as well. Please check it out at: http://www.redefiningmommyhood.com/ . I am also on Facebook under the same name. Thanks and best wishes to everyone:)
