hypothyroidism runs in family

Hello everyone,
I am 46 years old and have hypothyroidism which of course is not unusual. However, my three daughters ages 13, 13, and 16 have all recently when diagnoised with hypothyroidism within the past 2 years.
My one daughter actually has Hashimotos disease which is going in the direction of hypothyroidism. I know this disease can be hereditory, but they are so young it strikes me as strange that they all have this. Does anyone else have this going on in their family?

" Hello

I also have a family history of thyroid disorders (hyper and hypo). My dad was diagnosed with Graves disease and I was diagnosed with Hashimotos when I was around 24. My youngest was also diagnosed with an enlarged thyroid gland at the age of 4 while my two older children have shown no sign of thyroid related symptoms. "

" That does seem strange that they should all get it when they are so young. Though obviously not an impossibility. The only thing postive about it is the have you to guide them thru it. "

" My Mum and Gran had hypo and I have hyper. I was diagnosed when 43. Mum and Gran were diagnosed later in life as well. Haven't got my daughter, who is 19, tested but no signs of it so far. "

" My brothers goes back and forth between hypo and hyper. They found his a couple of years before I was diagnosed so he was in his early 30's and I was in my middle 30's. I don't know how long either of us had the problems before getting diagnosed. "

" I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and my mom and sister both have it too. We may not have all been disgnosed as young as your daughters but it does run in the family. "

" I believe my mother had undiagnosed hypothyroidism. She had trouble losing weight and depressed, then developed breast cancer. I have read about low Ft4 and Ft3 causing breast cancer.

Think my aunts were undiagnosed also. They had many health problems and trouble losing weight. My sister has hypothyroidism too, and have one daughter that is. Am thinking my other daughter does too.

Am watching my youngest daugher very closely for signs of constipation, depression etc.

So, it is hereditary for sure. "

" I'm 22 and I just got diagnosed, considering my medical history I still feel like a baby with all I've been diagnosed with "
