10 years ago, I had a half right thyroidectomy because of a goiter thought to be cancer. Luckily it was not. Next Monday, I am going back in to do an ultrasound because now there's a lump on the left side. Thyroid levels are "normal" however I have this hard lump I can move around with my hand. My question is has anyone else had this happen. If it's not cancer, should I leave it there? I don't want to go into an unnecessary surgery but it scares me to death that this might be cancer.
Thanks!

" Thyroid cancer is pretty rare, don't worry too much but, definitly follow thru with the reccommended tests, better safe than sorry. Even if God forbid you do have it, from what I understand, it not a very agressive cancer and is very cureable.
If it is nothing and you just have a lump, just follow your doctors reccomendations, there are a lot of vital blood vessels and veins in your neck and they may want to remove it to make sure that this lump doesnt get in the way. It can also end up affecting your thyroid levels later as well. Really, I would just discuss this with the doctor and ask him or her about the pros and cons of having it removed vs. just leaving it there and see what they have to say. You can also ask for a second opinion :) "

" Thanks Jessi. After I wrote that, I went to Stop the Thyroid Madness Website. What an amazing site! I've started taking vitamins for Adrenal Fatigue and feel 100% better. I also talked to my Doctor (who is an Osteopath) about gettin on Amour and she is all for it. I guess they stopped making it due to H1N1 but it should be back on the market in December. Ive learned to be an advocate for myself and it feels wonderful. I've been on Synthetic meds for 10 years and my doctors have been horrible at helping me! If you haven't been to this website, I highly suggest going. It changed my way of thinking! Take care "

" Hi there,

Sounds like you have a goiter. Here is some good info on goiters:

Don't worry too much, just know that my sister in law has had thyroid cancer and is a 20 year plus survivor. "
