" I do and sometimes they seem to linger for a half hour or so. For me. its just one of those things I have learned to endure. I added the hot flashes to the list of symptoms I am having and let my endo know whenever I see her. It helps to keep my doctor informed and she usually questions me of other syptoms whenever she goes through her list of symptoms. That helps me because sometimes I am too hard on myself for not being "in peak condition" and I forget about them. After all, I have been dealing with this thyroid issue for 13 years now. I am use to just grinning and going on with my life.

Hang in there. It does get better in time. "

" I actually get both. I get cold and sometimes I get hot. I never see hot flashes as a symptom of hypothyroidism so I was wondering if it could be from something else. "

" I thought for the last five years that all of my issues with hot flashes and anxiety had to do with menopause and hormone levels of progesterone, etc. I recently went to an endocrinologist after a change in my tsh level (slightly elevated). I started levoxyl and cytomel and I can truly say that my episodes of anxiety are almost totally gone. Even though I have been taking bio-identical hrt for about five years, I would still have that icky anxiety ridden hot flash at various times. The only time that I have one now is during extreme fatigue and stress. An interesting thought.. What came first the chicken or the egg? Oops, wrong story.. What came first the menopause or the messed up thyroid?
Good luck to you,
Jan "

" I never thought that the hot flashes could be from anxiety. I can't recall that I feel anxious at the time though. I'll have to make note of that. Is it possible to get anxiety symptoms w/o having a full blown, I think I'm having a heart attack, panic attack? Maybe from just stress but not that stressed out? "

" Absodiddlyutely! I should probably clarify. I had hot flashes from HELL and on top of that this sick anxiety feeling would pop up, not always at the same time. I had gotten a handle on the hot flashes most of the time, but the anxiety (kind of like a sick hopeless feeling) still was popping up. Yes, my anxiety was always worse in times of stress. I don't think that I have ever had a true panic attack, though.
Aren't we interesting creatures?
Let's join a yoga class and do some deep breathing!!

" Jan~ where your hot flashes from anxiety? I'm thinking that's what mine are from. I know of some specific times that I got hot flashes at work when I was really busy. I work w/ the public so I can't really show my stress. I don't know if I'm stressed every time I get hot flashes though. I think I get them if I go to long w/o eating too. "

" I think that my hot flashes were like yours. Sometimes in times of stress, other times for no apparent reason, like during the night. Have you ever had night sweats (hot flashes at night)? During the time that I started having night sweats I was also having trouble sleeping, mostly with racing thoughts, and then more sweating! Later my hot flashes would appear during the day and I would have them every hour multiple times. That is why they call it the 'hot flashes from hell.'!
It is only now that I am taking meds for hypothyroidism that I question the exact cause of my anxiety. "

" Yes, I get them at night, when I'm stressed and if I don't eat for awhile. "
