Hi, I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism but the doc wants another blood test before she will perscribe meds. I just hit me this last month. I used to NEVER nap but now can't funcition without one. I have hot flashes like menopause and my skin is getting sooooo dry there are red dry patches on the top of my feet. My hair is falling out and I get depressed and cry for nothing.
Noone can understand it here where I am. I don't know many people either cause I just immigrated to Israel and don't speak the language either. Thank goodness I have a good job and that is going well. It gives me something to be happy about. I haven't had a friend in 15 years. I am not kidding... can some of you be my friends? I need someone else in my life besides my immediate family....... Posted on 09/16/09, 03:09 pm |

Be glad to have you as a friend. Also, do you have other symptoms besides being tired? Are you cold alot or have any muscle aches? The numbers on the tests are only a baseline to go by---the symptoms tell it all. They will probably prescribe a T4 medicine for you which will not treat all the symptoms of thyroid disease. They need to add the T3 also and that is found naturally in Armour Thyroid or Naturethroid. It may be really hard to get in Israel though but they can use a combination synthetic drug with T4 & T3 and probably will have that. Be careful of too much T3---there is a conversion charge out ont on internet (see below). it will tell you how much of Cytomel(T3) and how much Synthroid(T4) to take. If you take the Synthroid, try not to get the generic because most people don't think it works as well as the brand name. Best wishes to you.

Ask and yee shall receive.
A friend is a gift you give yourself! We've all had a bundle of symptoms at some point. You've just got to work on getting on the right track and be patient. You'll learn to manage this! Ben

You are not alone - and all of us could always use another friend!
I was dx five years ago and am doing pretty good on Synthroid. I too struggle with being tired, especially after working all day. Make sure to ask you doctor what your levels are and make he/she should check your levels every three to six months. With me the dosage has changed frequently which I understand is not uncommon. Please stay in touch and let me know how you do. I care!

zybasima, you have found the right place.... I think we are all friends here. It is hard to share with others about our struggles. Keep track of your symptoms so that you can share them with your Dr. & keep learning & educating yourself so that you can also educate your Dr.
Your symptoms will get better with proper treatment and if your body needs to nap... then NAP. While you adapting to your meds, also talk to your Dr about multivitamins, (I take prescription prenatal vitamins) & calcium. You are brave to move to a place where you don't speak the language that alone will add to your stress. As a new friend allow me to wish you a SHANA TOVA UMETUKAH. &May we both have a Happy & Sweet New Year, filled with healing & Shalom. love&healing...

I have been struggling with this for almost three years now. I thought I was hypoglycemic, then I thought I had adrenal problems. Thyroid was the last thing I would of thought of. I'm happy to know what it finally is and that I'm not the only one who has these symptoms. At the same time I'm scared of what I don't know about hypothyroidism. I worry that I'll never feel OK again. I guess I should wait until I actually take the medication to see if I should be worried or not.
